To look at the ongoing media coverage of >Redacted< today, you'd never know that a whole slew of ominous, national-security-related news stories remain painfully current.
- Why would >Redacted< accept CPAC's invitation, when the Milo kerfuffle was already fully inflated, but only hours before the confab's organizers uninvited him? Amazing timing, that.
- Why would >Redacted< have staff proxies carefully tell the press pool over the weekend that he only golfed "a couple of holes" while he went off-radar for a full day and played a full eighteen? I now know more than I ever know about how many rounds were played by other Presidents in recent history.
- And of course, who hasn't chuckled at the creative trolling in response to the "Sweden last night" thing... which >Redacted< carefully explained yesterday and doubled down on again today, keeping it gloriously green in the social media feeds, apparently at his expense. So... why?
He's got us playing his game, again.
Who's talking about Sater? Putin? Mob ties to the >Redacted< business empire? Constitutional challenges to Executive overreach? The re-drafting of the Muslim ban? The destruction of the ACA and its potential effect on millions of >Redacted< voters? The disconnect between enabling "new coal" to pollute with impunity, and the never-to-materialize-again "old coal" jobs promised as a result thereof? Or a dozen other substantive topics that impact the lives of American voters-- including >Redacted<'s?
Okay, a few journalists are. But in the social media streams, on the cable talk shows, in the late-night comedian monologues, it's all "Je suis Whatever Happened in Sweden," and Milo's indefinitely-extended fifteen minutes, and Presidential tee times.
We have got to do better than this, Fourth Estate.
And everyone else.
Focus, and stay focused.
Because while >Redacted< may be an incompetent buffoon at any kind of substantive leadership, he's an undisputed Grandmaster of deflection and distraction. We play on his field at our peril.
minatorially,
Bright
