I have seen him making sense and have kind of gotten to have a little respect for him. Am I safe to be feeling that way or is he just hiding something?

(12,634 posts)but the follow through is always missing.
He speaks out every once in awhile but that's about it. Talk is cheap.until he's ready to take some real action then he might as well just STFU.

(2,771 posts)he'll fold like a cheap suit the second Democrats try to get him to join up with some sort of action or legislation.

(4,157 posts)WHATEVER he does now, this is what he SHOULD be doing. . . Just because he might be one of the few Repigs who pushes back, he's still a gas bag who took that Palin idiot as his running mate.

(26,630 posts)Nevertheless, I think it's okay to hope for something more from him. Just as long as you realize that you will probably be disappointed in the end.
He still has the potential to be a hero and a patriot if he chooses to. I just wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

(6,977 posts)He's STILL not showing ME much, and has only said a few things which were anti-tRumputin.
I trust McCain as much as would trust myself to pick up and throw an elephant.
My "trust" in McCain as of February 18th 2017: &

(976 posts)Heading towards authoritarianism. But it is hard for one man to defy his party. We need to encourage him to do what he knows is right. Positive reinforcement is called for. At his age he may say to himself, "fuck the party, I want history to remember me as the man who saved America".

(16,448 posts)This is in all probality his last years in the senate (and on the planet), so if there's ever a time to get on the America first train this is it.

(16,448 posts)He's 80, and will be 86/87 by the time his term ends. This is his last rodeo. He should be the guy with zero shits to give.

(20,878 posts)Just another lying shill is what McCain is.
To give him credit for anything at all is pitiful!

(28,968 posts)When he defended Obama during his campaign he took the high road and I think there was a level of respect for Obama most republicans don't have. He should be given credit for that.

(11,686 posts)I was actually impressed by that. I think that what I have disliked about him the most is that he always was so angry when he was campaigning against Obama. He frightened me.

(20,878 posts)One has to seriously wonder how anyone could support him at all. A man that would pick the likes of Sarah Palin as a VP is truly sick in the head!
PatSeg
(47,586 posts)though he's been known to disappoint time and again. Perhaps at this point in his life, he has nothing to lose, so why not just be honest and principled, something he was once known for. This undoubtedly will be his last term as senator, surely he'd like to leave a positive legacy.
I think he may stick to his guns on this one.

(9,581 posts)in this particular instance it serves our purpose. He was a real asshole to Pres. Obama, and he openly stated that, if Hillary won, none of her nominations for SC would be voted on or go through.
Same with Lindsey.
ETA: and don't forget, he brought us failin' Palen.

(6,008 posts)Talk is cheap, and mccains is worthless. He's got a long history of talking a reasonable game, but then voting for everything the crazier elements of the republican party asks for, unless it specifically involves torturing prisoners of war.
