And Milo sank to the challenge.
Like Ann Coulter and so many other RW gasbag personalities, Milo revealed himself to be an uninteresting, talentless hack that no one would have heard of if he didn't have the "Magical R" next to his identity.
I have to agree with Maher on giving Milo a shot. Nothing like sunlight to scare off the roaches.

(5,272 posts)is always the best way to handle ignorant messaging.
That said, I question why this kid, who seems intelligent, but entirely un-self-examining and self-centered to the point of engaging in the dehumanization of others, would be given a platform to speak at Berkeley in the first place.
Sadly, his worthless, shallow shock-jock right wing pandering material, which should have sunk as having nothing to offer any academic discourse, became a catalyst for an actually salient discussion about whether and how we should receive people who we think are doing harm with their rhetoric. I hate it when we cede the high ground to these people on any issue. At the same time, I totally understand the frustration that one's own Campus would give this person unfettered time and venue to speak his fucked up mind; the intention to out a student is truly disgusting and I appreciate the impact that hate speech has on the sense of safety, or rather lack thereof, of the targeted groups or individuals.
But I think its silly when campuses go so far as to bar people like Maher himself. I disagree with him often enough. On some issues he's spot on, while on others he's an absolute dumbass (or cynically ginning up ratings), like his nonsense about Islam...but he's not spouting demagogue-like hatred...he's putting forth an albeit weak, intellectual hypothesis, which frankly SHOULD be given voice so that it can be challenged publicly and put to bed publicly. Attempting to shut it out has not put it to bed. It only serves to feed the meme that it is liberals who are intolerant of ideas, or else afraid of confronting them. Much better in my opinion, to make his argument foolish rather than dangerous.

Thanks a fucking lot Bill Maher! You've just RAISED his stature! You've LEGITIMIZED him!
We'll only see more of that little SHIT now that you've helped him by giving him a NATIONAL PLATFORM!
I knew this would happen. Milo now has yet another line-item to add to his CV and his IMDB page thanks to Bill Maher.
And did I hear Bill correctly? Did he say that it "sounds reasonable" that transgendered women shouldn't be permitted to use the ladies' room because they're "confused" or that they put other women and girls at risk? (I'll have to see if I can find the transcript, I'm not inclined to go searching the entire youtube video to double check and get an exact quote.)

He is like the Westboro Baptist Church who offends with the intent on profiting off the resulting outrage.
So now it's obvious he's just a buffoon out to grift STOP PROTESTING HIM.
Just set up booths to fundraise for a good cause like the ACLU outside his venues.
The more negative emotion invested in this performing monkey the more he gets what he wants.

(3,077 posts)This is the little twit people were freaking out about? Talk about overreaction. He is an asshat. But the Bill is giving him a platform argument was dumb. He already has a platform but on RT he just seemed insignificant next to Wilmore and Nance. And you have to face the opposition. Ann Coulter is on there repeatedly.

(16,448 posts)There is zero daylight between the two. Honestly Milo may be to the left of Coulter if you want to put a fine point on it.
He came off as not serious, goofy, incoherent etc. I'm glad he was interviewed for those reasons. He revealed himself to be a big nothingburger.

(3,077 posts)I just read an article saying Bill Maher was upstaged by him. I had to laugh. Milo was just frivolous and pathetic. I laughed. Not because he says offensive things but because he is a joke. I don't take him seriously. Nance called him out on his hypocrisy and so did Wilmore. The overtime excerpt showed even more how lackluster he is. If anything, he just came off as asinine. Lol on your username.

(16,448 posts)If you've ever watched those you know what I'm talking about. Point is, he's not an intellectual which is something he probably thinks he is. He's not and that was exposed tonight. Maher didn't need to do much to bring that out.
Lotusflower70
(3,077 posts)Lol. I have seen those shows while channel surfing. That's the thing, Bill didn't have to do much. He just let Milo roll. Milo is clearly just an attention whore. He is just look at me, look at me. I looked and was like is that it. Is that all you've got. He really looked like a caricature.

(111,339 posts)so he doesn't disgust himself by being gay any more. Conversion therapy is often painful and brutal and never works. In some ways, I feel sorry for this hideous bigot and self loathing asshole. He will always be at war with himself and he'll always despise women because of what he sees as "female" within himself.
Other than that, he's a giggling twit who thinks hate is attractive. Yeah, he exposed himself pretty thoroughly and Maher was correct in allowing a liberal audience see what a fleaweight he is.

(531 posts)and I am so glad really that Milo was on this because it drew a lot of viewers because of the controversy and what those men especially the intel guy had to say was unreal, I would never have watched it if Milo were not on there, just out of curiosity (I agree with Maher on some points but he annoys me so I never watch), but the issues about wikileaks and the hacking of the DNC and all that were gems to learn about from the perspective of a veteran spy

Best method to deal with him is to set up a booth outside his venue and collect donations for ACLU or whatever organization seems most appropriate.

Maher is as obsolete as Ed Schultz and Cenk Uygur ... time to put him out to pasture.
Maher's show must be in bad shape if he's having to stoop to these Jerry Springer antics.

(531 posts)so stupid. There is no statistical data to back up any of this being a problem. Women and children are at far more risk in their own bathrooms in their homes which are unisex, than out in public, but I don't see him opining about that. Honestly i wouldn't worry about Milo's appearance. He got his ass handed to him in the overtime segment...and his one on one with Maher was just non-sensical and silly. I don't think he came off well, and to top it off, there is today's announcement he's undergoing 'conversion therapy'...he's really shot himself in the foot with this latest announcement, from which I don't think he will recover http://chronicle.su/2016/12/30/milo-yiannopoulis-to-undergo-conversion-therapy/

Free thinkers openly criticize ideas and he is a hero in that he is doing what many people who are in theocracies wish they could do but they can't even ADMIT to being atheist or agnostic because they could literally lose their lives. (80,708 posts)90% of his whole act is "liberals hate free speech and want to shut me up". So Maher comes along and goes "no, go ahead, talk"... "um, okay... uh... uh... did I mention the part about liberals loving censorship already?"

(53,987 posts)He demonstrated he is not even a one-trick pony. He is nothing more than a caricature. Though, I did enjoy watching Larry Wilmore and Malcom Nance telling him to "fuck off". His come back? He had masturbatory material. Someone else described it as a child playing with shit and giggling about it. That pretty much sums it up. Some compare him to Coulter, but she is actually carrying a brain in her head, he's got nothing but a hollowed out white squash on his shoulders. Was he anger provoking? To me he was, but for the most part, I'd brush him off as a twit, not worthy of response. His act was predictable and tired, almost as much so as those furiously jumping around complaining about Maher in any thread they can find. I didn't like Maher ignoring the comment about transgender people in the bathroom, or rather, a snide comment about agreeing with him. Definitely one area Maher is lacking knowledge. However, I didn't mind him calling Milo a "fag", and usually, I never let straight people off the hook for that one.
I had to stop playback on the DVR when Nance called Steven Miller "baby Goebbels". I doubled over and almost peed myself.

(80,708 posts)And if Maher had said "you know what? He's too dangerous - the name of his stupid tour, even - to have on my show", all that would have done is make people curious as to what it is he's got to say that folks are so threatened by.
Now everyone knows, and it's like
And yeah, Maher should have pushed back on the bathroom thing, I agree. Although I agree with him on a lot of stuff, he can be an uninformed moron too.

(531 posts)Those two men were awesome and I wouldn't have even watched if not for Milo being on there, I was curious to see how he came off (not well...now we know what internet trolling looks like on tv). But Nance and Wilmore were well worth sitting through Milo's preening stupidity. He is someone the redditors and 4chan-ers might find LULzish but Maher was absolutely right to have him on and dispel the 'dangerous' mystique that is what is getting him fans and followers. He's unintelligent, he called a 30 year veteran spy 'stupid'...just a very bad showing, kudos to Maher for seeing this.

(151 posts)It's fine that he booked him, but would have much rather listened to Jeremy Scahill who wouldn't go on with him. And that Kingston twit who went to Russia for Rump got off without any questioning but managed to interrupt everyone else. Wish Bill would get that under control. Most Republicans on his show do it and it's annoying.

No substantive discussion, no platform, no reasoning for acting out some inane phantasmagorical personification of a twisted mind. With so many people with good ideas needing public exposure this goes down as the worst choice of opening guest ever.
