President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, on Tuesday night called former President Obama's nominee, according to multiple reports.
Gorsuch made the call to Merrick Garland immediately following the announcement of his nomination "out of respect," according to an NBC News reporter.Link to tweet

The president on Tuesday announced his selection of Gorsuch, a well-respected conservative who sits on the Colorado-based 10th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, to succeed Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court.
"Millions of voters said this was the single most important issue to them, and I am a man of my word and will do what i say, something the American people have been asking of Washington for a very long time," Trump said when introducing the nominee.
Gorsuch said Tuesday he looked forward to speaking with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to answer their questions and hear their concerns.
Many Democrats remain bitter over the GOP's treatment of Garland, a judge on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, whom Obama nominated after Scalia's death in February 2016. Senate Republicans refused to give Garland a vote or a hearing, arguing the decision on filling Scalia's seat should be made by the next president.

***Query: Why are Republic0ns pushing ads for Gorsuch on TV so hard, don't they have enough people to shove him down our throats for SCOTUS?
For my money, it's Merrick Garland or bust!

(2,541 posts)Out of the daily disrespect republicans showed towards President Obama this was (IMO) one of the most disrespectful and despicable actions republicans did towards President Obama in the political arena. Why Dems were not hammering republicans daily on TV with ads and in interviews from Feb to Nov I still do not understand.
As for your comment about pushing this nomination. This is the first time I recall seeing TV adds for a SCOTUS nomination. I think what republicans are doing is trying drum up as much public support and exposure for this nomination so that they can paint Dems as being "sore losers", obstructionist, playing partisan politics (which republicans do daily yet never pay/have paid a price for it...republicans are masters at doing this and then pinning the blame on Dems) at the expense of the American people if Dems do all they can to obstruct or even filibuster the vote.

(5,644 posts)It's not like I was in love with Garland, but he was Obama's pick and the seat that RepublicOns stole, so WTH.
They probably knew that Putin was helping 45 and decided to steal that spot from O. RepublicOns never ever play a fair, straight election.
I guess we'll have to learn to be bigger crooks to win elections.
