Updated by Jeff Stein Feb 16, 2017, 3:04pm EST
Minutes after President Donald Trumps press conference concluded on Thursday afternoon, CNNs Jake Tapper called it unhinged and wild.
Here are nine quotes from the presser that back up that assessment.
2) On how Trump handles negative publicity. I dont mind bad stories. I can handle a bad story better than anybody as long as its true and, you know, over a course of time, Ill make mistakes and youll write badly, and Im okay with that. But Im not okay when it is fake.
3) An unprompted riff on CNN ratings and how the network could improve. I mean, I watch CNN, its so much anger and hatred, and just the hatred. I dont watch it anymore because its not very good. ... I think it should be straight. I think it should be I think it would be frankly more interesting. I know how good everybodys ratings are right now, but I think that actually I think thatd actually be better.
4) On why he wouldnt explain whether he will retaliate against reports of Russian provocation. Im not going to tell you anything about what Im going to do. Im not going to talk about military stuff. ... Mosul is very, very difficult you know why? I don't talk about military and certain other things. You were going to be surprised to hear that, by the way, my whole campaign I said that. I don't have to tell you.
5) On whether attacking fake news undermined public confidence in the news media. Here's the thing. Okay. I understand what you're and you're right about that, except this. See, I know when I should get good and when I should get bad. And sometimes I'll say, Wow, that's going to be a great story. And I'll get killed. I know what's good and bad.
6) On how the press would also be dishonest about Thursdays press conference. Tomorrow the headlines are going to be, 'Donald Trump rants and raves.' Im not ranting and raving. Im enjoying this.
7) On uranium. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things."
8) On why nuclear war with Russia would be bad. I can tell you one thing about a briefing that we're allowed to say because anybody that ever read the most basic book can say it: Nuclear holocaust would be like no other. They're a very powerful nuclear country, and so are we.
9) On careers unpursued. I'd be a pretty good reporter. Not as good as you.

(33,643 posts)That mines somewhere around 20% of the Uranium produced in the USA. That's 'mostly true' IMHO.
Here's the 'mostly untrue' description, which takes the entire picture into account:

First, the State Department did approve of Russias gradual takeover of a company with significant U.S. uranium assets, but it didnt act unilaterally. State was one of nine government agencies, not to mention independent federal and state nuclear regulators, that had to sign off on the deal.

MiniMe
(21,719 posts)It has something to do with Russia buying 20% of a mining company and nothing to do with processed Uranium. But the company does mine uranium, among other things. I think the company is Canadian, not American.

It didn't mention the Black Caucus comment/conversation either.
Nor the mention of how the admin. is "running like a well tuned machine" when a major player had to resign just a couple days ago (after a couple weeks on the job!) for reasons we still are not clear on.
Are we really looking at an America with a fake tan president telling us news is fake?

President Obama could speak in full, grammatically correct sentences with clear and precise responses. If it was a yes or no, that would be it, if there was some explanation needed he articulated the answer the reply for as many minutes that were needed.
All I hear from Dolt 45 are these breathy answers that make no sense. He's the god damn president, he can't begin a sentence without saying "I mean" ," you know", I'm telling you".....god god he can only say 3 things and expects us all to lay down and complement his brand new clothes.

(81,527 posts)Edited - the quote wasn't a "well-oiled machine," but a "fine-tuned machine."
That's how he referred to how "smoothly" his White House has been running.
Stood there and just LIED and LIED and LIED.
There have been too many articles and interviews and leaks such about just what a colossal clusterfuck things are in his White House now. That so-called "fine-tuned machine" must have the dirtiest, most gummy, and trash-filled "oil" in the works that any mechanic has ever seen! It's full of people who've never done work like this before, NO experience in government, backbiting and backstabbing all over the place, scheming and arguing and no inter-communication or coordination, and what work is being done is sloppy and slipshod as all hell. They can't even get their stories straight! Depending on which aide is talking and what time it is on any given day, you're going to get completely wrong, incorrect, incomplete, and conflicting statements. And they're not anywhere near fully staffed yet.

On further edit here -
I wanted to add - I've got Chris Matthews on in the background right now, and guest John Heilemann just concurred, and misspoke the same way I did, referencing the well-oiled machine to which trump compared his White House. Heilemann called that "the biggest falsehood of all."
And the ridiculous, utterly laughable assertion - "I've done nothing about Russia." Yet ANOTHER lie. At this point, I don't think it's possible to count how many lies have spewed from the Pinocchio-in-Chief's pie-hole.

(90,792 posts)Actors/performers talk of getting killed by reviews from critics on their acting abilities. Trump is angry that he felt his performance was stellar but the press didn't see it that way. He's not the least bit bothered that his actions aren't presidential or proper or rational.
No, he is angry that he didn't get the reviews his warped little ego thought he deserved.
