After Trump called only on right-wing outlets during the third consecutive press conference, Acosta predicts that will be the President's policy - to shut out major mainstream media during all interactions with the press.

but investigative journalism is hard work and it is expensive. It used to pay dividends when trust was the coin of the realm. Nowadays being first and loudest is often rewarded.
Hopefully it is a wake up call to those outlets that "access" just means that they have a story they want to sell you.

(82,849 posts)What's it going to be, O Bulldogs of the Fourth Estate? Do you insist on being spoon-fed information from an administration that is shutting you out, or are you going to develop your own sources to get the information you want and need? Try to remember that your bosses aren't the administration, it's the American people. Choose wisely.

(31,261 posts)The Press lost it's way during the campaign, only The New York Daily News, Newsweek and the Washington Post did true reporting, but the fixation that the rest of the media Had on Clinton's non existent email issues and DNC internal working drowned out good reporting, that coupled with many Americans having the attention span of a fly, gave Trump all the opening he needed to lie his way into office.

(6,537 posts)But once he deprives them of access, or blatantly dismisses them publicly, forget what came before. They will go after him tooth and nail. And I'm under no illusion that they would do it for the good of their country or the public at large, or their allegiance to the First Amendment. They would bring him down out of anger and vengeance. To paraphrase a certain movie, they will NOT be ignored.

(7,142 posts)The M$M gave Trump 2 billion dollars worth of free air time while almost totally ignoring Bernie. They certainly were a big reason for Trump being president. With that said, Trump needs the M$M now, just like it was stupid for Trump to take on the intelligence agencies, it is just as stupid for him to ignore the M$M.
He will only be left with his right wing core base.
It is a game of chicken, if you don't play nice with Trump he will take his ball and go home. Let's see if the M$M blinks first.

They never challenged his ludicrous statements, or criticized his outrageous actions, because they knew he would marginalize, even exclude them individually. Pound it in every show, the WH crooks will get over it pretty quick.

(99 posts)So unless 45's messages go national and be on the national news that I watch at home, I won't read about it anyway. It's a shame how this administration is saying the left-wing media is the cause of all this mayhem. I mean when 45 says that the problem isn't Lynn talking to the Russians, but the media reporting it - something is very wrong. I didn't think I could feel anymore disgust for the republican-controlled senate or congress than I did during the six years they obstructed everything Pres. Obama put forth, even stuff they had previously supported. They've reached a new low in sacrificing the democracy of their country because they're afraid 45 will tweet bad stuff about them, or they want to stay on his good side so they can dismantle the social programs in place that help the less fortunate. Selfish, spineless, greedy, seedy, weasels - the whole lot!
