It seems apparent that the Trump regiem will be over before the summer. I am no student of psychology so I ask those who are.
What could possibly motivate a man to take a job he did not want all the while with a closet full of bones that he had to know would escape? It boggles the mind.

(58,738 posts)he's running out of people who support him. To be expected when your supporters' "loyalties" are based on what they can get from you. Opposites may attract, but birds of a feather flock together. Basically every Trump supporter from the lowliest voter to the top level personal advisors and assistants have a little bit of him in them.

He's never learned the difference between right and wrong. I'm no expert either.

(26,308 posts)He wanted the title, the perceived 'perks', and I'm sure what he thought would be the accolades. He thinks he is so much smarter than everyone else. And I have no doubt he figured he could delegate most of the responsibilities.
We all know that he has an extremely overblown perception of his own intelligence and abilities. Without an inheritance, he'd probably would have been, at best, a struggling and inept real estate agent.

(11,887 posts)Narcissistic Sociopaths have no fear getting caught. They also feel no shame and morality is something to be manipulated in others. Nothing will pierce their delusion of invincibility. That is why so many of them succeed to the extent of their wildest expectations in business or even criminal enterprise only to become confused and angry when confronted with their own incompetence or criminality. 45 is the most dangerous of cornered rats.
Take for example, Bernie Madoff or Charles Manson.

(19,193 posts)Putin has the goods on him, he tried to throw the election, but Putin wouldn't let him. Now that he's in office he has no clue what Putin plans to do with him. What Vlad has on him is so damning he could have Trump impeached just to mess with him. Wouldn't surprise me if Trump publicly hands over our nuclear codes to Putin in a Press Conference and kneels down before kissing Putin's crap covered boots.
Putin owns him. Lock, stock, and barrel, Trump has zero power. If Putin asked Trump to nuke an American city with our own warheads, he would probably do so.

(3,208 posts)Not sure if that is a psychological term, but that is what I see. The supporters as well. He thinks putting gilt on something makes it classy. He thinks saying words like "make America great again" will do something.
He thinks he is a good business person, despite the bankruptcy and fraud cases. He thinks people who are not rich have something wrong with them.
The supporters keep thinking they want someone who is not a politician or a lawyer to fill the jobs that can only be done by people who have some sort of understanding of how the system works. They think breaking the system will somehow make things better.

(55,445 posts)Like previous years, Trump was a joke candidate whoring for publicity and generate viewers for his reality show... The only difference is the cable news sold out for cheap, easy ratings so Trump was really, really overexposed early in the race... And the more exposure he got, the more the media and his voters bought into his bullshit...
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled? Getting a supposedly educated nation to believe that a billionaire who literally defecates on a gold toilet was a populist and champion for the working class...

(9,033 posts)or how many gains he might make initially, he'll be completely bankrupt within a few years of being booted out of office.
With any luck, he will be in jail too.

(16,423 posts)He got in this for the ratings, the attention, the money.
Then, to his shock, he rose in the polls.
Then he pondered "what if I really do this?"
Then he thought "I'm the boss of a company, I could totally do this."
He thought that being President would be just like being the boss of a company: Being the unchallenged ruler.
He thought that he could simply command and bully problems to go away, just like he did in his companies.

(2,297 posts)Was that he actually liked the Clintons and vice versa. Who he hated more than anything was Jeb, and to some degree, the Bush family. He destroyed Jeb in the primary while spending pennies on the dollar. After winning the primary, he kept going.

(1,819 posts)But I don't think he thought he'd win.
Now he's in over his head and he's got to pay the man that put him there, Putin.
He's delusional and drunk on power right now, so he thinks he can do the job.
The GOP and wall street see this as an opportunity to deregulate, make lots of money and grab power. But the GOP are not going to let Putin get what he wants.
When Trump can't pay Putin, we'll all get to see the Pee Pee party tapes.
