If only some of the right people had asked, super nicely, about President Trump's financial entanglements at any time during the campaign. Candidate Trump said no, and that was the end of it. Trump was very careful to specify that he didn't owe any money to Russia, but he didn't say a thing about whether he might owe money to Russian banks or mobsters.

Being too cozy with the Kremlin used to be something Republicans were very concerned about. This year? They could hardly look less concerned.
