I know an ex military officer who is a lawyer and was a JAG officer in Iraq. He was telling me how infiltrated the officer corp of the Army was during the Iraq war. It appears that there are good many ranking officers who are very strongly Christian even now.
I remember a scandal at the Air Force Academy where there has been and probably still is a lot off proselytizing. There had been several investigations of religious harassment. Right now things are quiet but it does not mean the problem was solved.
All I know is that when I was in Vietnam we had chaplains. But religion paid no part in our operations and there were no prayers before operations. It sounds like such a practice might be more common than the public knows.

I have always said, if you are entering politics, check your ego at the door. I guess if you are entering education or the military you should check your religion at the door as well.
