Democrats to plot anti-Trump strategy -- in Congress and at the polls -- in Baltimore

By David Weigel and Mike DeBonis February 7 at 7:44 PM

House Democrats are heading to Baltimore on Wednesday morning for three days of soul-searching and strategizing after a winless month on the Hill.

The annual issues conference, House Democrats’ first with control of neither Congress nor the White House since 2006, is more introspective and less star-studded than previous years. On Wednesday, Democrats will hear from author Bryan Stevenson; on Thursday, from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; and on Friday they’ll close the conference with Chelsea Handler, whose Netflix interview series “Chelsea” has frequently focused on politics.

In between, they’ll sit for panels and strategy sessions about how to oppose President Trump with an agenda of their own.

“We’ve got to have some honest conversations,” said Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), who rang warning bells about how her party was on track to lose blue states in the Midwest.

“We’ll fight Trump where we gotta fight him, press back where we gotta press back, but then we gotta keep pivoting to what our vision for the country is,” said Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), who mounted a failed bid against House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi after the 2016 defeat. “I think people are gonna get whiplash with Trump.”

Seems to me that this is an important position to fill ASAP so we can begin the task of taking back the Senate & House in 2018. That is the only way to contain Trump until 2020.

hearing about this anti-trump strategy. I keep reading about how they are going to keep the destruction from happening.

But you know what I am seeing? Every single appointee confirmed. The only push back is on his travel ban.

We get DeVos, Sessions, Flynn, and so on. I see women pretty much being told to sit down and shut up. I hear calls to defund VAWA, PP, ACA, and all other services that actually help people, with little to no push back from those Dems who say they are planning to fight trump. I see more legislation to stop the vote, to limit a woman's right over her own body. I see white supremacists leading trump around by his nose and signing EO's that allow them to gain a foothold in society. I see trump planning to get their groups off the watch list. I see legislation passing to allow the mentally ill to get guns.

Talk is cheap. Acta non verba.

that's why they are getting thru. Harry Reid ended the filibuster on cabinet nominees so Obama could get his cabinet staffed.

However, the SCOTUS nominees can still be halted by filibuster until Yertl the Turtle Mitch McConnell throws the nuclear option. Until then the Dems need to put a hold on Trump's SCOTUS nominees.

so they are out there hammering away at trump's secretary of labor pic, hiring illegals, refuse to file his disclosures, opposes minimum wage, against overtime pay and believes the ACA “has created a ‘government-mandated restaurant recession’ because rising premiums have left people with less money to spend dining out.” Because they’re wasting a bit more money on health insurance, which they don’t need anyway because they can always go to an ER for health care, just like the employees of Carl’s Jr. do."

There is more than one way to run a nominee out of town. Ask Shirley Sherrod about fake, doctored videos.

like George Lakoff. They need to add one or tow of those to their strategizing meeting else they will continue to bumble along.

They are not helping. The celebs have failed at every turn since November. The Democratic Party needs to sit down and work out a plan not listen and have fun watching celebrities. I don't care if it's a trump bashing. How does that fix this mess? The Democratic Party is needed to literally go to war or 2018 will result in 60+ GOP senators. That should be the focus not handlers jokes on trump.

Sorry but we are past the nice sit down and watch celebrities time.
