Democratic power couple donates $5,000 to Wash. governor candidate McKenna (R)

Source: Seattle Times

Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna's gubernatorial campaign got a $5,000 boost this month from a wealthy Medina business executive and his wife.

That wouldn't be so unusual -- except that the couple is Costco co-founder Jeff Brotman, pictured at right, and his wife, philanthropist Susan Brotman -- long known as among the state's most generous benefactors for Democrats.

The Brotmans hosted President Obama at their house for a $17,900 a person fundraiser in February. Susan Brotman is credited with raising $427,150 for Obama's reelection effort.

... So far, the Brotmans have given nothing to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee, according to the PDC. (Though they had donated to some of Inslee's earlier congressional campaigns.)

McKenna has agreed to leave attacks on collective bargaining out of the race. COSTCO worked with others to close the state liquor stores with an initiative at the same time an income tax measure was defeated by the same voters. Here is the COSTCO solution to the loss of jobs:

Costco offers job interviews to displaced state liquor-store workers

Costco offers job interviews to state liquor-store workers, but they are currently union members and Costco is nonunion...

The union that represents more than 700 of those workers was not impressed by Costco's offer.

"It seems a little insensitive to spend $22 million to kick someone out of their job and then offer them an interview," said Tom Geiger, communication director for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 21.

There had been no complaints about the operation of the state stores except they were not open for as many hours as the retailers. The private sector is openly using the initiative system along with lobbying to make profit and in the process are destroying the commons and union jobs.

Progressives are struggling with the growth of right wing religion voters. They are going after school, health care, fire department, police, park funding and civil rights. COSTCO and other chains are selling right wing books, magazines and videos more and not offering progressive and liberal publications.

The newspapers have been reduced and television as well as community venues are going from suppressing alternative views to outright lying in some cases. Of course we have plenty of hate radio, too. Just more regression.
