(18,402 posts)1. I don't understand how you can ...
effectively oppose the nomination of a candidate for an executive position, who happens to be a senator, without criticizing him. Makes absolutely no sense.

(45,806 posts)2. It's Rule 19 in the Senate. It says something about imputing another Senator. Here's the rule.
2. No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator.
Here's the entire Senate Rule 19.

From what I've heard, Senators do this all the time. Senator Chuck Schumer responded to McTurtle: This is done all the time. What you've done tonight is SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT! Apparently Jefferson Beauregard Sessions is a good friend of McTurtle. I see all the abuse of Rules, laws, & the Constitution by this administration, and all I can say is "Pay Back's a Bitch"!

(18,402 posts)3. I'm quite aware of that rule
However, it makes no sense when the object of the discussion is whether to nominate or not, and when the issue is the decision that senator to leave the Senate to become part of the executive branch.
