. . . . . that left leaning people are a far more diverse group than are right leaning people.
Left leaning people are easily subdivided into more focused areas of concern. While these left favored focuses tend not to be mutually exclusive, they do, often, tend to have the true believers of one group debating heatedly with true believers of another group.
Just by way of example, this can be seen here on DU every day. (This thread is NOT NOT NOT about DU or DUers.) I won't risk getting sidetracked by specific examples.
If we want to win in 18 and 20, and I am certain we do, we need to dial back the internecine squabbles and focus externally. We need to be more tolerant of each other, even in disagreement. We need to stop and think about the fact that on most issues, while they may not be important to some of us, almost all of us would, if faced with a decision, support those goals. Think about the big issues - race, the environment, gender issues, medical choice, medical care, international relations, globalism, and so much more, virtually all of the disagreement is at the edges, not at the core.
The Teabaggers were successful because they all fell in line and followed the leaders. I am under no illusion that left leaners will fall in line. I AM hopeful that we will make the choice to join together in common cause aimed at improving our political clout to its rightful supremacy.
We really have to, actually.
