Best news of the day (so far).

The Independent (UK):

Hundreds of advertisers are pulling away from ultra-conservative news website Breitbart, and campaigners are confident the backlash is snowballing.

According to a database from grassroots campaign group Sleeping Giants, a total of 818 companies have pledged to remove Breitbart from their media plan so far.

In the last few months, giant corporations such as Kelloggs, BMW, Visa, T-Mobile, Nordstrom and Lufthansa have all severed ties with the company.

And in the same week that President Donald Trump has threatened to pull funding from the University of California, Berkeley after it cancelled a speech by Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos, two universities in Canada have also signed up to the advertising ban.

It can go without endangering the enterprise.

The enterprise is self-propelled now.

Most of the stuff we ramble on about here - petitions, marches, calling your Congresscritter, what Kellyanne said today - are completely irrelevant, They make us feel good, give us a sense of solidarity, and help get us through the emotional storm somewhat more intact. But affect the outcome? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

If the wrecking crew in the WH can ignore Congress and Federal judges as they are doing, they won't even notice us.

This is a geopolitical game being played at the highest levels, and the stakes are the power structures of the world. Putin wants to completely realign the global balance of power, with Russia at the top, and the USA swept off the board. The whole Trump shitstorm is the visible part of WWIII. If we lose, the nation will go dark. And we have virtually zero influence on the outcome.

It's going to get more intense. We need to hang on tight and pay attention to what is important.

Is there anything we CAN do? Well, yes, actually---try to embody the best in ourselves and live it as best we can. As a way of life.

President Obama is one role model. There are many others. Wisdom and Compasion are what I'm trying for, as much as I can.

Whatever goes on at levels beyond my influence, at least I can try and try again to walk a worthy walk.

anthropomorphisms such as "Russia wants."

Russia does not want anything. It is not alive, and has no desires.

That sort of thinking leads to the kind of over-simplification in your post.

Good essay here by Robert Parry questioning the liberal interventionism
at work with respect to Russia/Putin . . .

Disclaimer - I do not like Putin at all, but I also question the US role in
Central Europe.

Do you know about Aleksander Dugin's ingluence on Putin's geopolitical outlook? The role Vladislav Surkov played in Ukraine? There is a hungry bear on the move, and it wants to eat America's lunch.

Am having a senior moment trying to remember the man's name who called Bannon that, and now the asshole has infiltated a role in our national secuity!

But he's on MSNBC often. A former intelligence officer, and wrote a book last summer on Russia and cyber security.

Shoot, it's gonna bother me until I can remember his name.

apparently the Trump people are fans of Dugin too.

"America's lunch" is not in Central Europe. The US
needs to stop de-stabilizing the region.

I well recall NATO Chief Gen. John Galvin in 1992
calling for a de-militarized zone there. He was right.

I was once burned by going to Vietnam.

Never again.
