three more, got thirty civilians killed, and lost a $70 million helicopter, right? There will be six separate Special Committees in the House to find out why the Administration failed so spectacularly, and every person who ever said "Benghazi!" is now going to prove they aren't mindless partisan hypocrites by demanding that Donald be held accountable for this catastrophic failure, right?
Right?

(21,806 posts)They'll claim Obama deliberately set Trump up to fail.
Obama's administration had considered and planned for such a raid earlier, but put it off on the advice of the Pentagon and due to insufficient intelligence.
In essence:
OBAMA said NO due to insufficient/bad intelligence.
Trump said YES due to NO intelligence.
Ilsa
(61,697 posts)that PBO had not signed off on the attack because there wasn't enough intel.
Trump and his posse will lie about it every time it's mentioned.

We have a choice: commit to play the same game, or act like adults and go high when they go low.
After 8 years of Republican obstruction and lies, I'm content with the former over the latter.

(52 posts)We need to have protest signs talking about the loss of the navy seal because of the lazy idiot that is now POTUS by stealing the election from Hillary. Every protest must be about the subject but we to also bring up all the other issues we have with DAY GLO DONNIE. We need to use social media and write to newspapers and our congress people and bring up all the issues.
It would probably be a good idea if everyone used Facebook to post a certain amount of items a day, twitter, and other social media. Plus we send a postcard or call our state government officials at least twice a day.
That's where we failed, FOX News, and their talk radio syndicate brainished the brain dead midwest and the under educated of the major cities.

(82,849 posts)The Yemen raid was in the works for months, according to available sources. The Obama administration didn't authorize it, who can say why. Maybe the risk wasn't worth the reward. Maybe there were too many variables to estimate the chances of success. Maybe they were waiting for a moonless night, which wasn't going to happen until the new administration took over.
Whatever the reason, the plan for the raid stayed on someone's to-do list. Did the military approach the Trump administration, or was it vice versa? If the military initiated the contact, was it because someone really wanted to get the raid done, and the Obama folks were too wise to the lies to be taken in after eight years? Did whoever broached the subject figure that the inexperienced Trump team wouldn't know enough to ask the right questions*, or understand the answers?
But what if it was Trump's people who contacted the military? "Hey we need to rack up a military win to stem all the negative press. Whatcha got?" Would a military planner who knew better put troops in harm's way just to pull Trump's fat out of the fire? Or would a military planner who had been stumping for the Yemen raid think that his time had come at last to put his cunning plan into action?
For all the "lingering questions" and "shadows dogging Hillary Clinton" from the Benghazi nothingburger, the complete incuriosity of the media is kind of weird. I fully expect congressional Republicans to work double time to ignore the Great Yemen Clusterfuck, but that doesn't mean the popular media need to give this fiasco a pass.
*Or any questions at all, for that matter.

(20,219 posts)The commanders were ordered out. No advice, no requests permitted.
I've been here a long time; every time there's been military loss of life, people here on DU have cared. A LOT.
And for civilian losses, too. (Your posts didn't mention concern for civilians caught in the attack that trump & friends carried out, willfully isolating themselves from the commanders' advice, defying required protocol.)
murielm99
(30,755 posts)as well. And some here have family in the military. We care about the loss of human life, military or civilian. I have never seen anyone here on DU express anything but concern over the losses.

That's the point of the OP. Benghazi was a terrorist attack where basically our hands were tied and the Republicans had committee after committee trying to determine "what went wrong." They interviewed Clinton for like 10+ hours over it.

(4,558 posts)Based on broadcast news, and front pages stories from every single major news source that I've looked at so far this morning, I can't even tell that this happened.
Now.. I do know peeresident rumpus made an ass out of himself at some kind of early morning cult ceremony, and said bad things about Arnold.
I know the 3rd lady selected her chief of staff.
I know rump insulted the PM of Australia.
I know that the Berkely protest is another sign of "radical liberal extremism".
I know that rumpus went to pay tribute to a dead seal (but missing the information that the seal is dead because of rumpus giving the okay to go with the raid despite not having the support or information he should have had).
But the failed raid, and the complete failure of the CMC in pushing this raid forward? Curiously absent.
The fuckers are going burying it, and there seems to be very little apetite out there to push it. Disgusting.

(11,996 posts)So I doubt it will be headline news for long.
No because not enough Americans were killed, just 1, now if 5 were, then there should be Benghazi hearings all over the place. Lets see if Gowdy and Chavez are gearing up their committees... has anyone asked? hmmmmm
