He's going to have to create a major diversion to get the attention off himself. Otherwise, he'll soon have enough Republicans against him to create an opportunity for an impeachment.
So, what will it be? Usually, warfare somewhere far from our shores does the trick. We've had one disastrous raid by Seal Team 6. Trump's attack on Muslim immigrants and refugees is stirring up animosity.
And then there's Iran. Where will Trump's war begin? What event will trigger it?
9/11 took the attention off GW Bush, and much happened in the background while we were focused on that attack. Will Trump come up with an event vile enough to take the attention off his attempt to destroy our system of government? Can we even prevent something like that from happening?
Lots of questions, and no answers, but I believe something will occur before long that will shift the focus in the USA off Trump and to something awful happening. I just don't know what it will be. That worries me right now.

(4,450 posts)He will blow a North Korean long-range missile off its launch pad, or some similar maneuver. This would almost certainly insure a long, fierce conflict. Behing such a screen the administration could ram through all manner of hyperconservative policy that would otherwise be subject to much greater scrutiny.

(146,329 posts)North Korea is sufficiently distant and unimportant that it might work as a diversion. The country has few resources, including its military. North Korea is broke and hungry. They'd soon expend all of their strategic armaments, assuming we didn't do it for them. The downside is that they would immediately attack South Korea, which they've wanted to do for a very long time.
The Middle East is a more sure thing. Far from the US, it has been the whipping boy for this country for a long time now. When the President is in trouble, he can just stir something up over there and create a firestorm to distract people. The risk there is Russia, which is taking a new interest in the region.
I don't know what the trigger will be. Maybe a terrorist attack on a US passenger plane or cruise ship or something like that. Anything that triggers revulsion in the American public will do to use as a justification for getting us involved again in some conflict a long way away from North America.

(630 posts)Based on visits to Trumpland, they love his childishness, his randomness and his lack of discipline.
At this point, I don't know if losing their health care and never seeing jobs appear will change their minds. I think they'll be saying heil 'till their leader even after A-bombs are dropping on their heads.
