Sen Diane Feinstein (to Andrea Mitchell, just now) on Trump urging McConnell to use 'nuclear option' and do away with 60-vote threshhold to advance his Supreme Court nominee:
...another threat in a long line of threats.
This Congress needs to stand on its own. We are a separate branch of government. We do have our ideals, many of us are experienced and have been here for a while.
I don't want to see the Senate of the United States bow down to a demand like this.

(4 posts)I guess it was a bad idea for us to implement the nuke options... We suck at being smart sometimes

(19,567 posts)This is about Trump's statement, checks and balances, separation of power and abuse of power.
One branch acting under its own influence is not the what's being discussed.

(213 posts)After watching the sleazy, underhanded and dirty deeds on the other side for almost eight years do you honestly think they wouldn't have acted this way today? The only thing we could be guilty of is giving them the idea. Sorry, can't even think we did that. They seem to be able to find their own map to the sewer without us.
We need to make them own every single thing they do. To be honest, after they take 'power' we spend the next years cleaning up their messes. Put their name on every bit of slime they enact. Fight them tooth and nail and let their fingerprints be all over everything.
We are coming. Everyday they do something that makes another American stand up. In two years they will start answering for it. Then we will be taking back our country. In the meantime they are showing their black hearts and souls.
The charges...Among many others... treason, collaboration, fraud and theft. When kids go hungry and sick wives get worse and grandparents have to live on dog food in cold houses their base will see them for what they are. Look around, we are just getting started

(9,966 posts)...debatable, I'm happy Dems used it and favor its use again - even if the SC nominee is finally approved. Democrats should fight vigorously against every Trump pick.

(14,040 posts)but then people got their backs up about their admission that they maybe wouldn't require 60 votes or they would let the nomination go without a fight.
Instead people started demanding no votes and in order to calm down democratic constituents, they then had to telegraph their plan for 60 votes, which then gives McConnell the option to go nuclear.
Can't have a surprise uprising at this point.
