The law isn't obscure but it dsn't require Senate confirmation to serve on the Principals Committee, which isn't part of NSC as such.

GWB was very strict about not inviting political advisors, Obama less so, but they could not speak.

(5,455 posts)One just has to look at the make up of the National Security Council to see that not all members are confirmed by the Senate:

WH Chief of Staff, National Security Advisor, Assistant NSA, WH Counsel, Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, Homeland Security Advisor are all on the National Security Council and do not require Senate confirmation.
Took me less then 5 minutes to research this issue to find out that the media is either: incapable of basic research or lying again.
