The American socio-economic and political system is way more powerful than Groper Don the Con and his goons.

(22,976 posts)He *wants* confusion and chaos. Do you think all those surreal cabinet picks were made out of blind stupidity? They were designed to inflame, confuse and distract for maximum effect. Just like the executive orders Bannon writes for Trump. It may look like ineptitude, but if you read up on Bannon, he's on-script.
It's 2017, not 2003, and the old paradigm no longer applies in Bannon's world. He wants it all torn down first. They are moving quickly, keep your eyes on Bannon.

(6,139 posts)I hope it's not pot because once Sessions is confirmed he will immidiately activate DEA and have all dispensaries and growers closed in violation of federal law. This is coming very soon. Customers can get arrested with felony! They do not care about ANY of the states where marijuana is 'legal'.
Back to reality, Trump has virtually unlimited power:
1. He can defy judge orders including SC orders;
2. Once he has his own Justice Dept., they will always protect his EOs;
3. His AG (Sessions) will enforce EOs.
4. He has control over military
5. He has nuclear codes
Courts DO NOT have enforcement capbilities. Their decision means nothing without enforcement.
The only way Trump can be removed is through impeachment: IF house AND senate do so. While senate may, house will not do it - they are the most corrupt, right wing hardline politicians there due to redistricting.
He is de facto authoritarian. This was all planned well and with no way out! Remember, once authoririan comes to power, they don't give it up. Even if house matures enough and try to impeach him, the military coup will take place!

(4,858 posts)...Trump is just the symptom. The GOP is the disease, and they have been systematically trying to destroy liberal democracy for many years. They feel they finally have it in their sights. They do not play by "normal" political rules, they do not recognize the legitimacy of the opposition, and they will do whatever it takes to win. Their goal is a one-party authoritarian state, like what's happening in Hungary and Poland. Or, of course, Russia. Liberal democracy is facing its greatest crisis in the US since the Civil War, and in the world since the rise of the Axis powers. I think a lot of people subconsciously assume that a Lincoln or FDR will always show up when we really need him/her. I'm not so sure this is the case anymore. The survival of anything we can call "democracy" in the next generation is no more than 50/50, in my opinion.

(21,088 posts)You're not seeing panic out here. What you're seeing is people who understand that the continuation of your state as a nation is under dire threat. A threat that those of us on the outside, up to and including the Congress, have yet to find a way to counter. Every day that passes, more freedoms are flushed down the drain. That gets people kinda agitated.
It may look like panic to you, but ro me it looks like a justified mix of anger with the fear of what's actually happening, and its potential in the future.

GliderGuider
(21,088 posts)I don't see it. And if I did see some folks panic, I'd say that people have a civil right to express panic if that's what they're feeling. Calling people down for panicking during a grave Constitutional crisis with no apparent resolution is kinda insulting, ya know what I mean, Vern?

(2,573 posts)Americans...has done less than nothing to try to unite. He is inflaming folks domestically and abroad (on purpose no less) and there is unrest. And what does he do to try to calm the country....doubles down! Let's also remind ourselves this is just day 10. It seems like he is going OUT OF HIS WAY to be an asshole. I understand keeping campaign promises but this is ridiculous...trying to ram all this bullshit down our throat. Yeah bub I ain't swallowing and you better watch out I have sharp teeth.
But I'm not panicking I have faith that this country and gov't is bigger than Trumbannon. And if they aren't then we will be. There is only one way history will see this no matter how it plays out...history will be on the side of the people.

(60 posts)Trump/Bannon are far more dangerous than Bush because Trump is fucking insane and Bannon is a crazed White Nationalist..they have already wreaked unprecedented havoc or unpresidented...which includes Bush..soon they will withdraw from the Paris agreement, gut the EPA, overturn LGBQT rights..they are out of control..I am terrified..miles beyond panicked. Wait until a crisis..which is inevitable hits..they will make up their own facts.. do you think marshal law is unthinkable with them..detention centers..they are heartless dicktators

(22,976 posts)No one enjoys panic, but an increase in adrenaline is a perfectly normal response to what's going on.
This has been a Russian-abetted coup d'etat, nothing less. Read about Steve Bannon's background and how he operates (he's been writing Trump's executive orders). Look at the damage and confusion sown in one just week. Our nation is as ideologically divided as it was just prior to the Civil War, and does NOT have a president or congress that has the moral fiber to stand up to tyranny. They ARE the tyrants!

(6,139 posts)we are on our own, grassroots. Dems are silent on most important issues: what is the new duginist's global order that trump is trying to impose on us; deligitimizing independent press, deligitimizing court system; spreading falsehoods about election fraud; Bannon's goals to destroy the state, etc. Those are the core foundation and ideology that this administration is drived by. And they act clueless. Educate your constituents on techniqeus that this administration uses such as gaslighting, disinformation, chaos theory, etc.
