The very long list of Republicans in Congress who have taken no position on Trump's refugee ban

While a few Republicans have criticized the plan, the fact is that most Republicans have chosen to remain silent.

There are 292 Republicans in Congress. As of early Sunday afternoon — when we checked every legislator’s Twitter, Facebook, and website — only 18 had publicly expressed some kind of opposition to Donald Trump’s refugee ban. Fourteen expressed support. A whopping 260 have stayed silent or released statements that did not clearly support or oppose it.

Trump’s executive order, which bans entry into the US if you’re from one of seven Muslim-majority countries, was signed on Friday afternoon. Almost every Democratic member of Congress publicly opposed the order, either on Twitter, Facebook, or a statement. (Click here for a list of Democratic legislators who have stayed silent so far.)

But the list of every Republican legislator who opposed or critiqued the order is very short as of Sunday afternoon.

The two senators (Lindsey Graham and John McCain) released a joint statement on Sunday calling the order a “self-inflicted wound” and saying that “it sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country.” And: “we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”

I'll call him tomorrow about it!
