The joint statement of former presidential candidates John McCain & Lindsey Graham is wrong - they are sadly weak on immigration. The two...
...Senators should focus their energies on ISIS, illegal immigration and border security instead of always looking to start World War III.
What on earth does this mean??

(6,363 posts)After years of listening to right wing radio and watching the Turtle at work (don't ask why I did this but it involved a paycheck...lol), the one thing I have concluded without question is that if you want to know what they're contemplating - listen to what they accuse their enemies of contemplating.
That way, they have seeded their audience with a scape goat for when they do their dirty little deed.

Not exactly the way to build a coalition or promote unity. But unity and consensus seems not to be his goal, anyway.
It feels like Trump is all about power and self-aggrandizement - and alliance with other far-right forces, such as Putin, LePen,etc, no matter what the cost to the country or to the world.
This feels more and more like a coup.

STATEMENT BY SENATORS McCAIN & GRAHAM ON EXECUTIVE ORDER ON IMMIGRATION
Washington, D.C. U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released the following statement today on the Presidents executive order on immigration:
Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation.
It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trumps executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.
Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children.
Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.

Trump is now attacking members of his own party for criticizing his Executive Order.
Everything. Is. Fine.

(659 posts)I think he's referring to the fact that McCain and Graham want military intervention everywhere and every chance they get. They seem to see every problem as one the military should handle. Just because they are on the right side of the immigration and torture debate doesn't mean they aren't constantly warmongering. If that is what Trump is referring to then, sadly, he's correct.
OTOH, they are still better human beings than he is. Re-instituting torture, building walls, banning whole segments of society, and cozying up to the world's worst dictators are great ways to actually get you into wars.

It's such an off the wall statement to make in context of what McCain/Graham said, you know.
So off the wall I can't help but think starting WWIII was already on his mind.
