The residence is actually much nicer and homey--even if all he has is a bed, a tv and a couch from the warehouse.

You have to know that it is his extreme ego that made the Lincoln bedroom his obvious choice. How soon will it be before someone insists Trump's likeness is added to Mt. Rushmore.

(13,225 posts)You would think he would be more comfortable in the residence surrounded by his own favorite style of gaudy and tacky tinpot dictator style furniture.
The man has the worst taste in decor. It looks like someone vomited guilt and gold all over everything in his Trump Tower and Mar Lago homes. No wonder he was unsuccessful in picking up that married woman when he offered to take her furniture shopping!

(5,730 posts)I was comparing it to other newspaper coverage last night. The BBC barely mentioned some of the breaking, stories, superficially, along with the Queens outing. The Guardian is by far the best British newspaper, plus it does serious investigative reporting. However, my British Brexit mother in law, who claims not to be a Tory, calls it "leftist, leftist rag. She says her "friends " who read it send their kids to posh schools and live in posh neighborhoods. They pretend to care about people, but they are leftist. She fears and moans the Syrian tragedy: that Turkey may allow the Syrians to spill more into Italy, where she and hubby holiday at least half of the time. " We are already noticing." Plus, she is noticing she sometimes waits 10 minutes more for her doctors appointment. Great reasons to let these people and their kids struggle to die in the ocean. I pointed out out the Italian rescue agencies ,are looking for refugee boats. She says, yes, I Fear it will bring Italy down. From my experience, these are not the Brits of WWII, but another generation, with entitlement and racism as their focus, stated or with lips sealed. I realize, like us they are divided, Brexit, immigration. Still, with May racing to plop herself in Trump's lap
and the Queen inviting Trump at breakneck speed to dine(of course, they are groveling for trade after Brexit and how they behaved toward the EU), I do not respect their government. All I hear from the British is diss about refuges, reverse racism, inconvenience....How ashamed Churchill must be?

(81,314 posts)Our side of the Atlantic was a total wash-out. Everybody was kowtowing to bush/cheney. Everybody obeyed the "thou shalt not photograph or report on coffins of dead soldiers coming back from the war front" because if you did, you'd get fired.
That was one of the FIRST things then newly-inaugurated President Obama DID: he went to Dover Air Force Base in the late evening, to greet the incoming flight of flag-draped caskets. And he invited press coverage. Let's not forget that.

(11,415 posts)He pulled us out of the abyss almost single-Handel. He restored our economy and got a lid on loose nukes. He tried to get health care for the uninsured and stood up for all minorities. He measured our responses to rogue terrorists and kept internal attacks at bay. He represented all of us, even those who disrespected his infallible competence.
Out of the darkness into the light then into a state of confusion and destructive childish corruption.
I wish we could vote again and undo this mess and remove these piggish plunderers and fools from our government.

(9,760 posts)that he did so out of a fierce nationalism. And his beliefs about immigrants in general reflected that.
For instance, just a quick example, according to the Guardian:
On 3 February 1954, under the agenda item 'Coloured Workers', Churchill is quoted, with abbreviations, by Cabinet Secretary Sir Norman Brook as saying: 'Problems wh. will arise if many coloured people settle here. Are we to saddle ourselves with colour problems in UK? Attracted by Welfare State. Public opinion in UK won't tolerate it once it gets beyond certain limits.'
Adding that it would be 'fatal' to let the situation develop too far, the Prime Minister is recorded as concluding: 'Wd lke also to study possibility of "quota" - no. (number) not to be exceeded.' (abbreviations from handwritten notes.)
The documents give an insight into attitudes of the time and echo modern concerns about border controls. Handwritten notebooks were kept as a record of cabinet meetings separate from the official minutes.

I think the reporters name is Daniel Dale. He tracked Trumps lies prior to his election and I think he intends to continue to do so.

But now that Trump has been elected, they
see blood and are moving back towards the left.
Opportunistic to say the least.

(33,982 posts)So it's going to be a bit fiscally Right. I found them pretty reliable during the election though. The only news source that worked right on election night, and the only one that gave me pause that something might be wrong, and Hillary might not actually win, leading up to election night.
Here in WA, everyone I knew thought Hillary had the election in the bag. All over bar the shouting. Then about 10pm election night we all started getting texts and freaking out...
If I had listened closer to guardian reporting, I'd have been aware long ahead of time.
