I wish the headline above were an exaggeration. Its not. From TPM:
"The judge in Brooklyn, the Obama appointee judge in Brooklyn's stay of order really doesn't affect the executive order at all, because the executive order is meant to be prospective," Conway said on "Fox News Sunday."
Publicly pointing out the appointment history of a Federal Judge when that Judge rules against a given Executive Branch policy is usually the province of pundits and news outlets. Its never been the province of the Executive Branch, because the institutional damage caused by undermining the publics faith in our Judiciary has always been considered too much of a risk.
What Conway does in this statement is begin the process of delegitimizing the Federal Judiciary in the public mind by setting up all future conflicts the Courts may have with Trumps policies as rooted in political ideology. This is a deliberate choice of language by Conway, and we should expect more of it as Court challenges to Trumps policies begin to mount. A Fascist state cannot and will not accept its actions being fettered by the Courts. There has to be a reason a Court rules against the Fascist, and that reason must be rooted in an opposing, biased political ideology.
The Courts, particularly the Federal Courts, are going to be our last line of defense against this regime, and in fact they are the last line of defense for the American Republic.
Trumps people just demonstrated they are well aware of this.

(6,017 posts)They are well on their way, in fact, toward tearing it down. And with the Dems in Congress not lifting a finger to put a stop to it or prevent it from getting worse, I feel we don't have advocates within. Something, I fear, quite unknown to us is happening and it does not bode well.

(15,303 posts)"Blond" in quotes because god only knows her true colors and I'm sure they are shit-brown. Bimbo, because just like Conway, there is spouting of some pre-programmed lies.
I've said in jest before, but couldn't this be a real life enactment of one of Ian Fleming's novels dealing with an evil empire and moles? If Tom Clancy were around, I'm sure we'd have a real American hero to get the defecation out of the executive branch. Hello, Jack - are you there?

(21,088 posts)This situation appears to be an autocoup orchestrated by American fascists. It's far worse. It's actually an autocoup covertly orchestrated by Russian fascists (Dugin and Putin). Their goal is simply to destroy American democracy and any other vestiges of liberalism they can. to that end they are going to undermine the law, and set us on each other in an orgy of violence based on identity politics and hatred.
They don't want to take over America. They want to destroy it.
My sense is that they're within a week of succeeding.

(23,105 posts)Ever since the day the election was called for him I have wondered what would be the thing that gets hm in on the wrong side of judicial decree (probably not right word?)? This could be it. Will he say basically fuck the court, I do what I want? What happens then? Don't know that the court can enforce it's will? Are there any remedies if he refuses to follow a judges' orders or has our democracy already been sold down the tubes and there's nothing that can be done to stop hair furor and his illegal acts?

(74 posts)Who is telling these people - Trump and Bannon, et al, to do these things? I don't think Trump is a very deep, philosophical thinker. Was it the brothers? You know which brothers I mean. I bet it was the brothers, they had their underlings managing all this stuff. What the brothers want, Trump wants, you know.
