And I love George Takei, too. He's been a strong voice for truth and light. AND he's (now) Captain Sulu! Can't get much better than that.

(111,270 posts)George Takei grew up in an internment camp, a victim of the same sort of ignorant people who hate anybody they're given permission to hate, especially if they've never met any of them.
He is a treasure.

(90,714 posts)With apologies to Dylan Thomas -- this line keeps running thru my brain as the airport protests grow and grow.
We are NOT going to go gently into the death of our democracy, and for that I am grateful.

(3,040 posts)Takei has personal experience in this matter. His family was placed into an internment camp with his family when he was a child merely because he was of Japanese decent.
I fear that if there isn't enough push back against this Bannon will draft a Muslim internment executive order next.

(5,644 posts)An email blast went out after lunch Saturday, calling for lawyers to help people being held at O'Hare International Airport in the wake of President Donald Trump's immigration order.
Julia Schlozman received the message just a few hours after signing up to volunteer with the International Refugee Assistance Project. After quickly reading through the email, she hopped on a CTA bus and then grabbed the Blue Line to O'Hare.
An attorney who specializes in criminal justice reform, Schlozman has never practiced immigration law. But she went anyway, believing her research skills, brainstorming ability and enthusiasm could somehow help.
"I wanted to contribute in any way I could," she said. "I just felt like I had to do something."
