White House Blames President Obama After Muslim Ban Backfires On Trump

By Jason Easley on Sun, Jan 29th, 2017 at 10:58 am

During an interview on ABC’s This Week, White House press secretary Sean Spicer tried to blame the Obama administration for the seven Muslim-majority countries that were listed in Trump’s Muslim ban.

Video @ link:

Spicer was asked what this executive order says to Muslims in other countries.

The White House press secretary answered, “What this says is we are going to protect our country and our people. There are forty-six other countries that are not part of this, and I think that’s an important thing to note. Whether you’re talking about Algeria, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, or the UAE. There’s forty-six Muslim-majority countries that are not in this set. These seven countries were identified by the Obama administration as needing further travel scrutiny.”

Nine days into the Trump administration and the nation has been given its first blame Obama excuse from the White House. There is a big policy difference between suggesting nations needing more scrutiny and imposing a ban that is causing chaos across the country. President Trump made the decision to have this executive order drafted. Trump signed the executive order with pride in front of national television cameras.

There is no “blame Obama” here. This is all on Trump.

The Muslim ban has backfired on Trump, and the argument that it isn’t so bad because all the Muslims aren’t banned revealed the weak footing that the administration is on with this issue.

Obama isn’t occupying the White House anymore, so when bad decisions lead to bad policies, the responsibility belongs to President Trump.

As it relates to the Muslim ban, Trump signed it, so he owns it.

I'm quite confident that after he relaxes and devotes some time to himself and family that he'll be back. And he won't have the constraints he had as president. He'll be very effective when the appropriate time comes. In the meantime, trump and the repukes can keep digging their graves.

But that strategically, he will have more impact if he is perceived as not critizing Trump from nearly day 1 and having given him a grace period before he engages. He needs to influence people who are on the fence, not those who already hate trump. And then, he needs to help mobilize Democrats to vote at election time. He also needs to get people registered, with whatever ID hurdles the Republicans try to put up.

used the same argument. I guess the 7 countries weren't specifically listed in the EO, but someone in the Trump White House released the list, most likely Bannon since he is the acting president.

I had to argue up and down and still haven't convinced them. They are talking about the visa waiver program where president Obama gave extra scrutiny to people in visa waiver countries who traveled to those 7 countries.

40. Reminds me of the "Three Envelopes" joke
Sun Jan 29, 2017, 02:37 PM
Jan 2017

Decades ago, I heard the joke about the corporate executive who found three numbered and sealed envelopes and a note on his desk on day-one.

The note read: "Open these when you run into a problem you can't solve."

Several weeks later, the new executive was faced with his first crisis, so he opened the first envelope. It had a slip of paper inside with these words, "Blame your predecessor." The exec tried that, his board of directors bought that excuse, and things settled down for a bit.

Then, several weeks later, another emergency hit. He opened the second envelope, where the note read "Blame the media." Again, the ploy worked and things settled down.

Finally, the third disaster hit, much worse than the first two. In desperation, the executive opened the third envelope. The note read: "Prepare three envelopes."

It seems that Drumpf couldn't even get this sequence of steps right. But then, Shorn Sphincter and the rest of the swamp dwellers have been in "Ready - Fire - Aim" mode since they arrived.
