The Muslim Ban is a distraction - A SHOCK EVENT

The real BIG DEAL is the National Security Council shakeup - done quietly while the Muslim Ban was trumpeted.

Chairman of the Joints Chiefs is out?????????? Yup

Steve Bannon is in???????????? Yup

THIS is what we REALLY need to worry about.

Edit to add "A SHOCK EVENT" to the thread title.

The problem is that they are practicing the tool of distraction. Trump is getting isolated. Any potential rational voices of opposition are being excluded from important decision-making.

I fear something truly horrible is being planned.

Even if completely reversed tomorrow, it will have a lasting effect on our reputation throughout the world. We will get much less future access to the best and brightest minds from around the world, and the economic loss to our country could be immeasurable.

10. Both a big deal and a smokescreen -- Bannon is in charge

Bannon's main expertise is in media. The shocking and clumsy and cynical way the Muslim ban was dropped on us takes attention off of the National Security Council changes which are very ominous -- the two people that are now only to attend when invited are people that deal in reality and facts. Adding Bannon, who has no experience in security issues but only in media, is very worrying -- and it is not getting the attention it ought to have.

Everything this madman is doing as a distraction. At the same time, it's not a distraction. This is been the M. O. Of his campaign and of the Republicans and tea party in general for the past six years. I just keep flooding Congress and state legislatures with all sorts of extremist legislation, forcing opponents to prioritize. The problem is, it's all important, and we have to fight on all fronts at all times.

It would help if we saw some strident responses on the Democratic side. I have to say, I'm flabbergasted at their silence.

Yes they are trying to pile multiple shocks to keep people from zeroing in on anything.

I expect tomorrow they will announce the move of the embassy to Jerusalem.

No in that this isn't the shock that they wanted. They thought that they would get an intense debate on merit but they didn't anticipate that virtually everyone, including their allies, would think that they are idiots.

There were news reports that leaked that an announcement would soon be made.

However they actually walked that back and said that no actual decision is imminent:

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2017/01/trump-israel-tel-aviv-jerusalem-embassy-netanyahu-palestine-occupation/514367/

The White House spokesman, Sean Spicer, has since repeatedly emphasized that discussion about a possible move is in its very early stages, suggesting no announcement is imminent for now. . .Moving the embassy is not a priority for even the Israeli far right, for whom issues such as expanding settlements are much more important. Even Avigdor Lieberman, Israel’s hardline defense minister, dismissed the idea in December, perhaps recognizing that moving the embassy would almost certainly invite an outpouring of violence.

THIS thread is about the shock event.

There are a on of threads about the Muslim ban.

Yes, both are important, but they are not the same and not equivalent. As such, they merit separate discussions.

If they are both important, if they are both worthy of analysis and discussion, then neither is in fact, a smoke screen as alleged (unless one can illustrate objective evidence pointing to the ban as being nothing but a distraction... which is in fact, what a smoke screen is), but simply an additional issue.

Merely calling something a shock event does not in fact, make it so. Objective evidence would be offered, observed and measured, followed by a conclusion. A premise lacking objective evidence is simply a bumper-sticker.
