then scapegoating, unless mitigated by education of all kinds. I think the GOP pretty well knew that if they stopped Obama from Keynesian spending during a recession, they stopped their base from being well educated with their use of fox news, it would guarantee economic and indentity anxiety and scapegoating and more GOP votes.

Doesn't mean that anyone who prioritized economic issues during the election is not now out in the street or, in this case, airports making sure that racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and Islamophobia is known as unacceptable.

And please stop implying that economic justice supporters dismiss the need to fight social oppression. We don't. We never did. We're just as anti-bigotry as you are.

What we're saying is you can't effectively fight racism and support market economics.

Even if you put fighting institutional bigotry first, you still have to make challenging corporate power and moving towards a proper distribution of wealth and the elimination of poverty a big party of that fight.

And we learned that from Dr. King and Malcolm X, whose memory we ALL honor.

There's no divide here.

that the area of the brain that incites fear is more pronounced in "conservatives." For real. When someone says that Obama is going to take your guns, liberals laugh while conservatives go out and buy more guns.

Fear that's been cultivated by ongoing pols or anyone wanting some sort of power, claiming this person or that is taking your job, your future, your wife or girlfriend, your this or that. Goes back to before the Civil War when Irish potato famine or Italian immigrants were taking jobs, then slaves were going to take their jobs (there were riots in NY and Baltimore about this). This technique was used in the '50s and Cold War (Bridge of Spies shows it very well, and I was a witness to it) and has been used repeatedly through today. Problem is that too many buy into it.

Legitimizing gay marriage will bring an end to ? Immigrants are stealing ? Muslims are ? Need I list more?

Then there's the reinforcement of politics and government as being a sport or war. Our side has to win. Their side isn't playing fair. Underlying this is fear again; fear of loosing.

What was the major theme throughout the primaries? The two that emerged for the election campaign both played on fear for almost it's entirety. We're (mostly) played for the fools we are when we buy into this.
