(2,573 posts)the "immigrant" is dropped out in a generation or two and the kids and grandkids are thoroughly American. They are also so scared of losing their "identity"...well your "identity" must be very fragile if you find this a threat.

(25,862 posts)I have long believed that the only difference between me and lots of others here, is exactly when our ancestors got here.
A decade or more ago I was in the checkout line at my local supermarket, somewhere in the Midwest. The woman bagging groceries had an accent, that I think was Middle European. The man ahead of me addressed her by name and said, "I hear you've just become a citizen. We need more people like you here." That has stayed with me. He was right, even though I know nothing at all about that woman other than her recent citizenship. This country was founded on immigration, nd we should never lose sight of that.
