Disgraced Duggar minister and accused molester cited as ‘strong influence’ over Trump’s agriculture pick

President Donald Trump’s pick for agriculture secretary, former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, claims the same disgraced spiritual advisor as the Duggar family.

Perdue credits Bill Gothard, who resigned nearly two years ago from the ministry he founded over sexual harassment allegations, as the strongest influence in his life aside from the Bible, according to the Homeschoolers Anonymous blog.

“Nothing besides Scripture itself played a more important role in the daily guiding and leading of our family than Bill Gothard and the Institute in Basic Life Principles,” Perdue wrote in a blurb for Gothard’s book, “The Amazing Way.”

“We immersed ourselves in the clear but profound and practical wisdom delivered by God through Bill,” Perdue wrote. “I found every seminar and every piece of literature was produced impeccably in honor of the One whose message it delivered.”
