New US UN envoy Nikki Haley warns allies: have our back or well respond accordinglyReuters
27 Jan 2017 at 11:31 ET
The new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, pledged on Friday to overhaul the world body and warned U.S. allies that if they do not support Washington, then she is taking names and will respond.
Haley made brief remarks to reporters as she arrived at the world bodys headquarters in New York to present her credentials to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Our goal with the administration is to show value at the U.N. and the way that well show value is to show our strength, show our voice, have the backs of our allies and make sure that our allies have our back as well, Haley said.
For those that dont have our back, were taking names, we will make points to respond to that accordingly, added Republican President Donald Trumps U.N. envoy.
Haley, who was South Carolinas Republican governor when Trump picked her for the post, has little foreign policy and no U.S. federal government experience.

The United States is going to be treated like a guy walking around with a chip on his shoulder and blustering at everyone. We all know that guy.
Here's the thing: Everyone who is a head of state thinks of him or herself as absolutely equal to any other head of state. Proper etiquette is the essence of diplomatic communications. There is an entire style of communication that is unique to international relations, and if it is not followed, people bristle and become uncooperative.
One of the things you don't do as a diplomat is to openly threaten leaders of other nations. That's seen as bullying, and always results in bad feelings and poor cooperation.
Nikki Haley is out of her league. She needs a crash course in diplomacy-speak, or she is going to be a liability.
The Trump Administration is off to a very bad start in terms of diplomatic relations with other nations.

(1,089 posts)by everyone around the world for the past 8 years. I travel the globe a lot, and the difference between 2007 and 2008 was nothing short of midnight and noon. It was so refreshing and such a relief. Look like those days are over, and it's not a surprise. When you put an all-time asshole in office, the country is going to come off as a country of assholes, particularly when said asshole's minions are seemingly trying to out-asshole each other to win the favor of the head asshole. It's really too bad.
I also think this comes off as completely cowardly. Bluster to me was always a signal of a big-time sense of weakness and inferiority. Pretty much fits with POTUS Asshole's whole image.

What a weird interpretation of having the backs of your allies. Punch them in the back of the neck. What's next - Hold out your hands while Sister Mary Ruler whacks your knuckles?
These people embarrass me.

Naturally, he can always resort to bullying and threats. His standard "Plan B".
I wonder if the fool realizes that his sacred "brand" is being chipped away at with every word that comes out of his mouth. And, by extension, from his surrogates' mouths. Doesn't sound like very good business to me.
