Mexicans Launch Boycotts of U.S. Companies in Fury at Donald Trump

Mexicans Launch Boycotts of U.S. Companies in Fury at Donald Trump
Ioan Grillo / Mexico City 11:30 AM Central

The digital image shows a clenched fist bathed in the red, white and green of Mexico’s flag and decorated with the nation’s emblematic eagle. “Consumers, to the Shout of War,” it says in Spanish above the fist. “Consume products made in country…Use your buying power to punish the companies that favor the politics of the new U.S. government.”

Created by a Mexican food-activist group, the image is part of a slew of messages, memes and videos that have been spreading in Mexico in recent days as President Donald Trump pushes for a border wall, deportations and punishing new trade rules.

Others messages call for specific boycotts of U.S. companies in Mexico, including McDonalds, Walmart and Coca-Cola. One of the most heavily trending hashtags is #AdiosStarbucks, or “Goodbye Starbucks,” referring to the Seattle company which has opened hundreds of coffee houses here.

Trumps MO is to take over a business, load it up with debt, declare bankruptcy and walk away clean with more money that he started with I think.

So now he will do the same for America, enjoy...SUCKERS!

The republicans will throw off all laws restraining the wall street casino soon and we all know how that story will end.

Big bubbles that will pop and wipe hundreds of millions of dollars out overnight from 401Ks and mutual funds.

But pond scum businessmen like Trump will laugh all the way to the bank!

They will stick up for the own families and have family values that would shame the Bradys. Many are devoutly religious.

In my experience with Latin culture in South Florida, usually it's "the whole family goes to pick up the dry cleaning, or nobody goes."

They have remained quietly content to work tirelessly at drudge jobs in categories that a lot of Americans would feel below their stature in life for low pay.

So this is a shame because if America would just show a little kindness, I'm sure Mexico would be one of our closest and strongest allies.

Boycotting Starbucks isn't going to help. It's a company that sides with progressive agendas so this admin wouldn't give a crap nor would the CEO have much leverage when dealing with the Trump admin.

They need to go after companies that are conservative ruled. Do they get Koch bros products in Mexico? Those should be the ones they target. McDonalds is good. Walmart excellent choice to boycott. Coke same. Starbucks would be the only ones to go to bat for the Mexican people.

If I were Mexican, I wouldn't examine very carefully the politics of the particular US-based company. If Trump can lump all Mexicans into one category, Mexicans can do the same to American companies. My thought would be for all of them to feel the pain and maybe together they can work to get rid of him.

The Mexican resorts should add on a 20% or more to each individual from the US visiting. I can't tell you how many of my pasty white, Trump loving friends and relatives head on down to Carmen de Playa every winter and vacation. I know a large group planning a visit next month. My angry white cousin just loooooovees Mexico. But when it's people come up to the US, not so much.

Recoup some of the cost off of American tourism. Imagine the squawking that Mexico isn't that nice cheap tropical vacation anymore

How can they not? A 20% tariff on Mexico is an act of economic war.

The painfully humorous part of it all is...

The American public will be the ones paying an extra 20% on all products they buy from Mexico!

Many American made autos have lots of parts that come from Mexico so jack those already high prices up 20% more. So even if you try to buy American its going to bite you in the ass too.

We will take it in the shorts so Trump can swing his little hands around and look like a tough guy.

I suspect that it's not just moderates and progressives who are looking at this guy with consternation, but even responsible Republicans who are appalled. (I assume that there are still a few, and they OUGHT to be appalled).

I'd have thought that even the lingering Cold Warriors and their sons and daughters would know better than to turn your continental neighbors
.

Meanwhile, here in deep red Texas, a lot of the suits whose money comes from the border trade are beginning to wonder just what the H••• they elected. A lot of businesses and individuals are going to take big hits. I suspect that voters' remorse is possible--even in Texas.
