It's just a gut feeling but it's a pretty powerful feeling at that.
This country is far too great to allow itself to be flushed down the toilet

(43,198 posts)We know about what happens in authoritarian regimes. That hasn't been hidden from us.
It has never reached that point here, and I don't think most people are in the mood for it to ever reach that point.

(105 posts)People who did not vote for Trump never tolerated him in the first place.
People who did vote for Trump still think he is "winning." I do not see that changing soon.
Let's also remembers that if something were to happen to Trump, like an impeachment or resignation, we would have President Pence.

(5,813 posts)If it is business as usual while tRump and his thugs are wrecking things, the masses may wake up too late. Those who are watching (with horror, I might add!) need to be shouting our messages of concern loud and often. Take to the streets. Make a ruckus while we still can. But the People who understand how to organize need to step up and guide us. Massive protests take people who understand logistics and the pragmatic matters of how you mobilize a sh*t ton of people. Where do you get the funds? How do you delegate all the details?
I want to see a real action plan being put in place and sent out to those like me who are afraid and frightened of where we are headed but are not sure how and where we push back. The leaders who organized the Women's March can help us. After seeing the magnificent job they did, it is clear they had some real leaders among them AND lower level people who knew how to get the job done.

(5,762 posts)We can keep demonstrating. I think that's a given. Until and unless things become violent from one side or the other, this right might be left in place.
We can continue to mount pressure on our elected members of Congress and Senators, but that is usually of limited effectiveness. In my nice blue state, lobbying my nice blue Senators is pointless--they're already on board. We can attempt to influence red Congress members, even if they're not our own, but I've learned through sad experience with advocating for sensible gun laws--that this is essentially pointless. They smile and nod, and may even give you a cup of tea, but at the end of the day, they go and vote right down party lines.
We must mount all the pressure we can on all media, to push for truthful reporting, regardless of consequences. Those of us with means, must support media that commit to this goal. Choose your "good guy" media and pony up whatever you can afford, to keep them in business. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few who are deserving: ProPublica, The Washington Post, Slate...there are many out there. Choose carefully.

(10,176 posts)I have no clue what's going to happen, but I'm going to start with this TODAY. I'm calling my reps and to the Repukes I'm going to say that they will not be able to pin this all on Trump and say they were unable to stop him. Everything he does has a Republican signature on it. Everything.
I was thinking last night along the lines of massive rioting, but who knows.
