GOP Really Wants To Stop Social Security Checks & Medicare Abruptly.

The GOP really wants to just stop both programs and kill them on the spot and without warning. They hate them so much they really do not want to continue them another minute. I do not believe seniors understand that. And when I tell some seniors about the GOP attitude they reply. "Oh They Would Never Do That".

I simply do not understand why so many seniors are in such complete denial. It is like they are demented. They hate minorities so much they are blind.

Their owners have tired of both democracy and the social contract, and are counting on them to gradually - and not so gradually - push the world back into Louis XVI conditions.

All we all know how that turned out.

The way you wrote it, you said that seniors are demented and hate minorities.

I also don't think all seniors are in complete denial, but that's your opinion, that's fine. The ones I know are not in any kind of denial.

I play a lot of golf and know a number of seniors where I play. You would think the course I play is a ritzy country club. I cannot think of one senior I know who would vote for any Democrat. They hate Obama and they hate minorities in many cases. Their attitude comes out in many ways, but their hatred is there nevertheless.

I also know a former state Senator who lives in an assisted living center that is very large. Most seniors there are very GOP and hate Democrats and hated Obama. I kind of tease her and ask her if she has converted anyone.

What surprises me is that a lot of present seniors were in their prime when the Civl Rights Act was signed. I did not realize the resentment that has existed all these years.

It is all about demeanor. By vouchering and privatizing they undercut the funding. They would damn up the revenue source like damming up a river and stopping the flow. They know for a fact that if they divert the revenue stream as it stands now that the money needed to pay present recipients fairly quickly dries up. There are no resources in the reservoir to supply water down street to put it metaphorically.

The program would essentially be in crisis almost immediately. Then they could claim they cannot afford it and would just cut it off.

I understand your skepticism about their intentions. If you watch what they are doing to ACA already they are trying to cut the income stream that supports it. Once they shut off the water the program collapses.

I'm 71 years old and receive Social Security payments and am on Medicare. I'm no Republican. I keep a close eye on those programs, and have not heard anyone proposing to end them suddenly, as you stated.

If you have evidence for your statement other than old guys at your golf club, please trot it out. Otherwise, you are just guessing and are ignoring a lot of voters on those programs.

Thanks. I'll wait here for your evidence.

all of their lives. The breaking of this contract is called theft. I know that he stiffed many of his contractors, but I'm inclined to think that there are very few who would take kindly to having a lifetime of savings stolen. There truly would be pitchforks and tar and feathers on the menu.

Part of me hopes that they'll try to kill SS and Medicare and that the attempt will destroy them.

The other part of me is afraid they'll succeed, and my wife and I will be screwed.

so badly, that cuts are needed. For example, if the screwed the economy up so badly that millions were suddenly unemployed there might be pressure to cut SS and Medicare.

“Donald Trump made protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid a centerpiece of his presidential campaign. As recently as yesterday, Press Secretary Sean Spicer reiterated that promise. But at today’s confirmation hearings for Health and Human Services Nominee Tom Price and Office of Management and Budget nominee Mick Mulvaney, both men made it clear they had no intention of going along with that promise.

Price refused to renounce his support for cutting Medicare by $449 billion and Medicaid by $1 trillion. Due to that horrific record and serious accusations of insider trading, Social Security Works delivered petitions from over 35,000 Americans to the Senate Finance Committee stating that not only should Price’s nomination be voted down, he should be under criminal investigation.

Mulvaney went even further, explicitly endorsing benefit cuts including raising the eligibility ages for Social Security and Medicare and saying that he would pressure Trump to break his pledge not to cut them. Is Trump willing to betray the American people and be a pathetic puppet for his own nominees and Paul Ryan? If not, he needs to prove it by withdrawing these horrific nominations immediately. If he does not take this step, the Senate must vote them down.”
