(86,005 posts)...both the inauguration and protest left a mess.
Still, this from the Park service:
Whether they were here to support the president or to protest, the National Park Service said most people were respectful.
Our crews reported that while the trash was overflowing, the trash was at the cans, said NPS Spokesman Mike Litterest. The people, you know, participants and visitors to the Mall had been very respectful of trying to keep it clean.

(45,534 posts)Even Michael Moore encouraged recycling the paper instead of littering the street. City workers have to clean it up, not Trump's workers.

(86,005 posts)...fuck that.
This was an impressive gesture. That hotel is a flash point for resistance.
Looking forward to the pics of Moore picking up trash.

(32,640 posts)And they said that people were great about leaving trash next to the trash cans when the trash cans overflowed.
And the crowds were much lighter than expected for the inauguration, so the actual picking up of the trash wasn't that onerous.
It's not like people left signs strewn in the streets, or on the White House lawn. They left them in specific, limited places.
Is that clearer?

(45,534 posts)And I have volunteered some weekends with the park service to clean up trash around our monuments. Tourists can be real shitheads leaving food and drink containers. The park service are good people and woefully understaffed.
We all have our own perspectives on things

(5,272 posts)clean this up, it's that it costs out of the city budget to do so. I don't really think it's a problem, and if people think there's something powerful in the gesture of leaving these signs there, then I hope you're right, but my first reaction was also slightly uneasy about the choice.
People who disagree with you aren't always to be assumed that they are evil incarnate or hate the movement and hate women and everything else, and being as quick as you are to assume so is...unfortunate.

(45,534 posts)I've done volunteer work with them before to clean up trash and do gardening around the monument areas. They really need more funding for what they do instead of budget cuts like the GOP is promising.

(34,092 posts)The trash cans had not been emptied after the inauguration, so they were already full - and no official place to leave the signs. (Also that some of the signs are being kept by the Smithsonia.)

Anyway, the park service did say that people were less messy this time than at other events and many did make an effort to pile it up next to the overflowing trash cans.
