haha! Only 400 turned out to meet Romney bus in Michigan stop

Mitt Romney finished up his recent 5-day bus tour in Michigan this week with stops in Frankenmuth, Dewitt and Holland. For those of you who aren’t from Michigan, you’re forgiven if you’ve never heard of those places.

He called it the “Every Town Counts” tour (or, as The Nation magazine calls it, the “Some Towns Just Don’t Count” tour) and it had stops in 13 towns.

Romney was met at the Holland State Park by a monstrous crowd of about 400 mostly white, mostly male supporters. He was also met by a significant number of protesters, including MoveOn.org’s “No Millionaire Left Behind RomneyMobile”.

In fact, there are a substantial number of minorities in Holland, Michigan. It’s 22.7% Hispanic and 3.6% African Americans. But none of them were at Mitt Romney’s rally. They were nearby, though. Since the event was held in one of Michigan’s glorious (and oh-so-socialist) state parks, there were people of color there to swim and picnic.

They were not there to support Mitt Romney.

By the way, if you think that Mitt and Ann Romney were slumming it on the bus every night, think again. At the end of each day, they boarded a jet and flew to the next stop and stayed in a nice, comfy hotel.

Taxpayers with no loopholes would have to pay for his lavish expectations if he became president. Sleeping on the bus would have shown some character.

I'm picturing it this way: He flies a private jet (his own or one borrowed from Koch Industries) to an airport near his scheduled appearance, then rides in a limousine to rendezvous with the campaign bus a block away from the official venue, and at the final destination he smiles and waves as he strides manfully down the steps of the bus, which he has only ridden on for about 100 yards.

Unless Romney can prove that he feels comfortable talking in front of diverse crowds...

During an appearance on MSNBC Thursday, Williams suggested that the Republican presidential candidate seems the most unscripted and at ease on the "Fox & Friends" show because he is more comfortable around white people.

And for VERY good reasons! They see their THREE traffic lights as year round Xmas lights, and nothing more. Those stop signs are just lollipops that greet you at an intersection, certainly no reason to stop. Roundabouts are a place to get lost in for at least 15 minutes. They have no clue what turn signals are for, surely not for signalling your intention to turn, and the Bird is their way of greeting everyone.
The De-WIDIOTS live in Armaggedonville subdivisions behind 12 ft. high berms, with armed guards at their single entrances. I tell ya, Mittens fit right in.

The smart minority.

We're a minority here in the Traverse City region too but our numbers are growing, slowly but surely. I think it's mostly smart people relocating here (so many visit and want to stay!), but whatever it is, I have good reason to hope we'll soon have the majority here.

Hope springs eternal.

Julie

Edited to add: Here in TC they seem to forget that the green light means "go". They are such bad drivers that they are gradually putting in the little green arrow lights for left turn lanes so no judgement is required, just go when you're told (but fucking go already!). Mostly breed them big and dumb up here. Rush has a huge audience and Ron Paul is popular. *sigh* Lots of pockets of dumb in MI. Mittens hit a few and ignored anything north of mid-mitten. Otherwise he'd've been here for sure ~ and actually gotten a huge crowd too! Glad his team's too stupid to get that.

Tue Jul 3, 2012, 03:45 PM
Jul 2012

in this area for more than 30 years now. BOTH Dewitts - you know there's two, right? - are red enclaves in the deeply red Clinton county. We've had to replace our mailboxes 6 times because when we've put up yard signs for Democratic candidates, they shred the signs, leaving the mess, then they smash the mailbox and destroy the landscaping.
Regarding the Stop signs, I was hit and badly injured by a driver who ignored a stop sign, a mile from my home. Two people were recently killed at the stop sign just down the street from us, so they made it a four way stop. One more has been killed since then by someone who ran the Stop sign. One more death, and they'll put up a blinker light. UP the street, half a mile away, they had the same problem, and now they have a four way stop. One more death and THEY get a blinker light, too.
And just last week, that person who got lost in the roundabout - that was my Republican neighbor.
I have dealt with both the City and the Township officials throughout the years - ALL Republicans. They don't elect Democrats in Dewitt - either of them. Not once in the 30+ years I've lived here. They might not love Mittens, but they HATE Obama.

PS: I learned the word De-widiot from a State Treasury worker more than 20 years ago - it's a very old joke known to many here. Don't mean to offend, but I state the truth as I have known it.
