by Ken Meyer | 12:38 pm, January 22nd, 2017
During an appearance on CNNs Reliable Sources, Brian Fallon said that President Trumps administration is lying to America and the media must not let him get away with it.
The former Hillary Clinton spokesman was among the many who reacted negatively when Sean Spicer used his debut as White House Press Secretary to burn the media on Saturday. As the Trump administration faces accusations of lying about their inauguration crowd, Fallon opined that Spicers dishonesty was an affront to public relations professionals.
I really am concerned that if yesterdays briefing is any indication, that this is somebody who will put his standing with his boss ahead of his integrity and standing with the press corps, Fallon said. Those are things that are dangerous territory. Fallon went on to say that both Trump and Spicer made a clear attempt to lie and should have resigned:
If he was put in the situation by Reince Priebus or his boss Donald Trump to go out and tell a lie to the American people, he should have resigned rather than go out and take the podium.

(115,831 posts)and otherwise prostitute themselves for him. What are they getting out of their relationship with him? Do they assume that his power will rub off on them? Are they getting off on working for the president of the U.S.? Are Spicer and Conway thinking, "I have to go out there and spit out bald-faced lies that can be easily disproven but it's worth it because I'm really, really important and people pay attention to me"? Or is it, "I know I'm lying and the elite media snobs know I'm lying but the ignorant rubes comprising our base will believe me and that's all that matters?" Or, "I have to lie to keep this gig going for as long as possible because I'll never work in this field again"?
Trump isn't loyal. He'll throw Conway and Spicer and the other mini-Goebbels under the bus the minute they say something that offends him, or maybe just because he decides he wants someone who can project his glorious image a bit better. Chris Christie whored himself shamelessly for Trump, and look where it got him. So there must be something else that motivates these people to stand in front of a microphone and shamelessly lie about facts (real facts, not "alternate facts" that can be rebutted in 30 seconds with a simple Google search. But I can't imagine what that would be.

(9,127 posts)I doubt "Baghdad Bob" had much choice regarding his gig. Mr. Spicer, on the other hand, has willingly chosen to be America's version of "Baghdad Bob." His reputation will suffer.
He'd better hope for his sake that he won't be remembered as "the Mother of All Liars."
