Missouri's swing-state luster dims

Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch

Missouri is no longer a coveted electoral bride.

For decades, presidential wannabes courted Missouri voters with face time and slick television ads. They fought like rival suitors of a beautiful woman, battling to lift the veil and place a ring around the state's electoral votes.

But this time around, Missouri is left standing alone as candidates focus on wooing the hearts of nine other states.

The status change was cemented earlier this month when President Barack Obama didn't include Missouri in his television ad buy targeting swing-state voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Mitt Romney has followed suit.

11. He can win other states easier, why waste money there this early

At this point, he's trying to secure all states Kerry won + OH, FL, CO, NV, or NC. A lot of battleground states have always voted one way or another but remained close.

probably a Mittens enthusiasm gap rather than any like for Obama. They hate Obama but they don't like Mittens much more.

12. Why should Obama waste $ in a state he lost and doesn't need this early

If it Mittens loses Missouri he's doomed, it's a repuke must win state like Michigan and Wisconsin are Dem must win states. He might be waiting until after the Repuke senate primary in August

Not advertising might actually help Obama too.

The ads running against McCaskill are tying her to Obama. There is no doubt that internal polling tells them that's a good way to spend $

It's too early to advertise in MO right now, it might be a good idea to advertise there if it's still competitive in the fall to put Mittens on the defensive

The focus on the general doesn't really emerge until after those are over. If they advertise they will be background noise and their message would become redundant and tiresome.

The very idea that somebody like Brunner could be considered a viable Senate candidate . . .
