When Hillary Clinton showed up to the inauguration of her former rival Donald Trump on Friday, her outfit made a striking statement. She wore an all-white suit making a not-so-subtle reference to the womens suffrage movement.
Its an especially striking choice on the eve of the Womens March on Washington, which promises to draw massive crowds of people aiming to remind Trump of the importance of a famous Clinton quote: Womens rights are human rights. The march will also echo another inauguration protest the 1913 womens suffrage parade that ended violently, but galvanized support for passing the 19th Amendment that guaranteed women the right to vote in 1920.
Its not unheard of for women to wear white at the inauguration. Indeed, Ivanka and Tiffany Trump both wore all white too, perhaps in reference to their support for womens issues. Laura Bush also wore all white in 2005 at her husbands second inauguration.
But a woman politician wearing all white has particular historical meaning, one that women who set political milestones have often been conscious of. Geraldine Ferraro wore all white when she became the first woman to accept the vice presidential nomination of a major party in 1984. Shirley Chisholm wore all white in 1969 when she became the first African-American woman elected to Congress, and again three years later when she became the first African-American woman to run for a major partys nomination for president.

(28,343 posts)So I just don't think they are that aware - especially in reference to political history.
On the other hand, I have noticed that Trump seems to prefer his women to dress in white or pink. I think he may have requested white. Undoubtedly, he has no clue of the historical significance either.
Ivanka in particular, seems to wear white and various shades of winter whites quite often. She's well practiced in how to please daddy.

(164 posts)One thing I see well is this lying mentally ill monster is unstable, unpredictable, hateful and power hungry. We need to be a persistently aggressive force in dealing with the crisis of having this thing with tiny hands in a position of power he can only damage others' lives and hopes for the future.
Impeachment is a tool that is called for in light of his business conflict of interest. Let's light this fire under his lard laden butt.
