Gillespie said that he was not aware if companies tied to Bain shipped jobs overseas, before adding, what happened in the story as near I can tell is that the reporter confused the notion of outsourcing. Now a lot of American companies outsource, they outsource domestically, he said, noting that the Obama campaign outsources jobs to Nebraska and CNN contracts out video editing projects.
Never thought Omaha was so exotic. Do I need special vaccinations to visit your foreign world?

(53,339 posts)It must have hurt that your customers had no appreciation for those ESL courses you took. Still, I have little sympathy for a foreigner way out in Omaha who steals a telemarketing from a REAL American.

(26,582 posts)The company I work for outsources janitorial services, but it's not offshored. If a company moves their entire production line to China, that could be off shoring but not outsourcing. Outsourcing means another company is doing it for them. They could move their production to China by getting an entire new company to do it - that's both outsourcing and off shoring.

Limiting it to offshoring, limiting the timeframe to when Romney was running Bain, etc.
It was still losses of good-paying jobs, and just because Mitt may have left doesn't mean the conditions put on a company during his tenure (i.e., the debt load of the leveraged buy out) didn't cause job losses later.
He also split hairs over Bain profiting from those companies as to whether it was profit (as defined by the financial industry) vs fees for handling the takeover and running the company. To the rest of us, that difference is semantic: they were still pulling money out of "underperforming" companies rather than reinvesting it in the company to strengthen it.

I'm not a fan of Romney, but Dems are losing a golden opportunity to talk about the necessity of providing living wages in the US if they let this one slip by. Please talk about outsourcing. I'd welcome hearing about that on our FCC regulated airwaves.
