Democracy did NOT elect grabberman or the GOP into majority.
The news reporter said that the majority of Americans disapprove of the GOP majority and WH therefore,
democracy has failed.
Democracy is about the majority, and the majority disagree.

(1,997 posts)1. Dumb down the electorate by cutting funds to public education, making many people unable to critically analyze their choices.
2. Divide the electorate with strong rhetoric (which can be totally untrue, given the 1st Amendment) focused on we vs. them.
3. Change the rules as they are able, to make it harder for the other party to gain a foothold.
A freedom loving Democracy would want all people to succeed, but the repubs are not those people.

(2,716 posts)we will never see democracy. The people who now hold power can't afford true democracy and they know it. Look for more voter suppression, declining education and muffling of the honest press. They will work fast because the truth is nipping at their heels.

(2,957 posts)The problem is we don't live in one. We live in a constitutional republic where the electoral college determines the president rather than the popular vote. This allowed a man who lost by around 3 million votes to be elected because rural votes are worth more than big city votes.
The EC is the underlying issue. What other modern country in the WORLD uses such a grotesque system? The EC originated as a compromise to slave holding states.
