Chuck Todd on Trump's Speech: 'It Felt as Though He Almost Was Insulting Every Living President'

NBC’s Chuck Todd was struck by what he deemed was a partisan note struck by President Donald Trump during his Inaugural speech.

“I have to say, it was surprisingly divisive for an Inaugural address,” Todd said.

Todd noted that it was difficult to campaign as a populist, as Trump did, and then be a uniter.

“That was not the type of Inaugural address that was intended to bring this country together,” Todd said. He added, “There was a point there, Lester, where it felt as if he almost was insulting every living President that was sitting next to him — in very personal ways.”

His colleague Tom Brokaw added, “He was also insulting all the republican Congressmen and Senators who were on that stage. He has a majority. But hhe went after politicans point blank.”

He doesn't understand the give and take of politics at all - that sometimes you have to be at least civil to people you don't like and disagree with in order to get anything done. He has to protect his inflated but fragile ego by pissing on everybody's campfire, not understanding that the asses he's kicking now are connected to toes that will soon kick him back.

Just like he'll be presidential after winning the nomination.
Uhhh... he's be yugely presidential after the convention.
Uhhh... he'll be so presidential after the campaign reset your head will spin.
Uhhh... he'll be just wait and see, bigly presidential at the debates.
Uhhh... the closing argument will be presidential, believe me.
Uhhh.... once the transition starts--majorly presidential.
Uhhh... after the new year...
Uhhh.... now please?

Surprising would be if he gave a unifying speech. This one was just true to character. It's dangerous that the political media still thinks he's play some kind of game.

Not sure how anyone surprised at all? I expected no less than another hateful campaign speech, that's all he knows. The man doesn't have a presidential bone in his body.
