Congregate, activate, rejuvenate

The range of emotions that tore up most Democrats, many Independents and even some moderate, anti-Trump Republicans after the November election can, starting today, be transformed into a powerful weapon. Although we may not all be in the same place on the ready-to-fight-back spectrum, each and every one of us has the ability to do something....even a tiny something....for our party, our country, for each other. During last night`s protest in New York City, Michael Moore talked about how we`re all Muslims, all gay, all women, all men, the foundation for....he ain`t heavy, he`s my brother.

Donald Trump is not as powerful as we are. He`s a tainted, bullying overlord....and there`s just one of him compared to millions of us. This election loss has already helped grow a new backbone in some of our leaders, and that backbone will help give us the courage to stand up, redefine our party, solidify our principles and reconnect with voters all over this country. It`s the common purpose that`s going to see us through. Look what`s happening right now, thousands of people all over the country are turning their sadness and anger into non-violent resistance.

Some of us here at DU are old enough to remember (and participate in) Civil Rights marches, the Women`s Movement, Vietnam War protests. We faced tremendous odds back then, but nothing deterred us. We were determined to do the right thing and it changed our country in profound ways. We must keep believing in our principles and in our ability to uphold them. We have computers, cell phones, a hunk of cardboard for a lawn or window sign, the number to our representative`s office. We can write, tweet, call, march, discuss, plan, organize....and do it in numbers greater than ONE thin-skinned, unprincipled narcissist who`s in way over his head.

Trump isn`t going to change. He`ll get trapped by his lies, hindered by his ignorance, detoured by his ego, and diminished by his lack of morals. He can hire all the marching bands from coast to coast but that doesn`t change the fact that he mocked a disabled reporter, demeaned a Gold Star Family, treated women like his own personal play things, the list goes on.

We`ll help each other find courage, we`ll make standing up to him contagious, and we`ll be a better nation for it. Just keep believing.
