Military veterans occupy John McCain's office

to protest the 'irresponsible' appointment of Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as secretary of state

Military veterans gathered at the office of Sen John McCain on Thursday to protest against the appointment of ExxonMobil oil tycoon Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State.

The group of nine veterans live streamed the protest on Facebook, calling Tillerson's an 'irresponsible pick'.

McCain was reportedly in the building at the time, but wouldn't meet with the veterans, who stood in formation in his office.

Why do we keep having to read about these events in the foreign press?

There are a fair number of people on my friends list who are not Veterans and spew Right Wing crap (which I ignore, that's just my way) but the ones who ARE Veterans and spew the same crap astound me. They seem to LOVE him.

or protests like the Dakota pipeline, or other liberal protests, it is because the same people who own our media (down to 6 companies), are against these issues. Bad for their businesses!

Money has corrupted ALL OF OUR INSTITUTIONS!

We get caught up in the issues close to our heart, whether they are LGBT, immigration, women's rights, Climate Change... but don't look at the root cause of all of them. We do not join together to attack the thing causing most of the problems in this country, money in our politics. You notice this is rarely mentioned in the press even though these fundraisers are going non-stop! There is much that the media does not talk about. Now we have brain washing propaganda on top of the issues not being discussed. That is why we have Trump and the most plutocratic cabinet nominees of all time!

When are we going to realize this enough to reach critical mass? Will it be after they destroy the poor and middle class?

You don't.

As I'm writing this post, I have another window open to Google News. The time stamp for the article in the Daily Mail is four hours ago. The time stamp for the article in Stars and Stripes is fourteen hours ago. The time stamp for the article in Business Insider is nineteen hours ago.

Many other US outlets ran that story before the Daily Mail saw it, repackaged it, and put it on their website.

I have not checked to see who the source for the story was. It could be Politico, The Hill, or someone else.

Best wishes.

Veterans arrested for protest in McCain’s office

WASHINTON – A group of veterans was arrested Thursday in Sen. John McCain’s office during a protest over secretary of state nominee Rex Tillerson’s oil ties.

The seven veterans held a vigil in the senator’s office for several hours and demanded to talk with the Arizona Republican, who was not available according to his staff. Eventually, Capitol police handcuffed and arrested them when the group refused to leave.

The veterans, who had ties to the environmental group Greenpeace and the group Iraq Veterans Against the War, told Stars and Stripes that they hoped to sway McCain’s upcoming confirmation vote. They cited a range of concerns over President-elect Donald Trump’s pick, saying Tillerson put corporate profits above American interests, took advantage of instability abroad and helped perpetuate climate change.

“We believe Rex Tillerson is the absolute wrong person for secretary of state,” said New Mexico resident Jonathan Engle, a former sergeant 1st class with the Green Berets who was arrested Thursday. “He has shown no loyalty to the United States as CEO of ExxonMobil and has actually subverted U.S. foreign policy in places such as Iraq in 2011.”

The group stayed in McCain's office most of the day until it closed. They were arrested by capitol police when they refused to leave the office at closing time.
