Thank you Barack Obama for ending the Great Recession, hastening our exit from Iraq and Afghanistan, putting Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor on the Supreme Court which ushered in marriage equality, and putting us on the path to universal health care.
Thank you for being a great role model. Even a Deplorable would have to concede you have been a great father and husband.
Oh, your successor isn't fit to carry your briefcase.

Incredibly learned, incredibly decent, and the best president we've had for many, many decades.
However, your time is not yet done and your advice will be extremely helpful in helping improve the political situation.
We will all miss you greatly but dearly hope that you do not leave us without your ongoing leadership.
I was born in Kahuku, Hawaii and attended Punahou School through the eighth grade, but then I think they were getting ready to kick me out and I went to another school. My wife graduated from that school, and was also born in the same hospital you were, Kapiolani.
Your years in office has made all Hawaii proud, the country proud!

(6,927 posts)year or four years. I will be 68 this year. I have survived cancer with surgery/chemo/radiation, the full course. Soon I will have a new knee which has give me problems for 40 years (yes, forty) but has grown progressively worse.
I had a fulfilling but stressful career as an RN, my husband is now a cancer survivor and my siblings both have health problems. My brother is Canadian so his health worries are less troublesome.
I have seen a good bit of awful in my life, I lost my father when I was not quite 11.
But I will always be grateful that I live during the administration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden and for the incredible work their wives have done. It has been a true gift.

(253 posts)I am old enough to remember Harry Truman. Truman in my mind is the only president whom I remember at all who was in the same league as Barack Obama. A couple of things Truman did: He fired General Douglas MacArthur - this action was one of the greatest acts of preserving and protecting the constitution ever. He was the president ultimately responsible for the Marshall Plan - this program probably saved western Europe from falling into the Soviet orbit.
Obama did a number of things that easily stand with Truman's feats - Obama Care, ARRA, Iran Nuclear Deal, Same Sex Marriage, His elegant attempt to deal with the racial divide in the U.S. etc., etc. . . . .
Thank you Mr. President for all you have done.

Obama, like most presidents in my lifetime, had some policies I disagreed with. And yet during his tenure, I also could go to sleep more easily at night, knowing that BHO held the nuclear codes and wouldn't plan or execute anything rash or some knee-jerk, psycho-rage behavior.
I will sorely miss this man and Michelle. They're both incredibly sharp and savvy, and both possess deep empathy. They're still young and have stated that they both will continue to fight for what's fair, honorable, reasonable, diverse and inclusive.
