Barack Obama Appreciation Thread

Thank you Barack Obama for ending the Great Recession, hastening our exit from Iraq and Afghanistan, putting Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor on the Supreme Court which ushered in marriage equality, and putting us on the path to universal health care.

Thank you for being a great role model. Even a Deplorable would have to concede you have been a great father and husband.

Oh, your successor isn't fit to carry your briefcase.

You've always been the grown-up in the room, doing the incredibly difficult work that had to be done, and putting up with very strong and unfair headwinds.

Incredibly learned, incredibly decent, and the best president we've had for many, many decades.

However, your time is not yet done and your advice will be extremely helpful in helping improve the political situation.

We will all miss you greatly but dearly hope that you do not leave us without your ongoing leadership.

I was born in Kahuku, Hawaii and attended Punahou School through the eighth grade, but then I think they were getting ready to kick me out and I went to another school. My wife graduated from that school, and was also born in the same hospital you were, Kapiolani.

Your years in office has made all Hawaii proud, the country proud!

year or four years. I will be 68 this year. I have survived cancer with surgery/chemo/radiation, the full course. Soon I will have a new knee which has give me problems for 40 years (yes, forty) but has grown progressively worse.

I had a fulfilling but stressful career as an RN, my husband is now a cancer survivor and my siblings both have health problems. My brother is Canadian so his health worries are less troublesome.

I have seen a good bit of awful in my life, I lost my father when I was not quite 11.

But I will always be grateful that I live during the administration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden and for the incredible work their wives have done. It has been a true gift.

Wed Jan 18, 2017, 09:02 PM

I am old enough to remember Harry Truman. Truman in my mind is the only president whom I remember at all who was in the same league as Barack Obama. A couple of things Truman did: He fired General Douglas MacArthur - this action was one of the greatest acts of preserving and protecting the constitution ever. He was the president ultimately responsible for the Marshall Plan - this program probably saved western Europe from falling into the Soviet orbit.

Obama did a number of things that easily stand with Truman's feats - Obama Care, ARRA, Iran Nuclear Deal, Same Sex Marriage, His elegant attempt to deal with the racial divide in the U.S. etc., etc. . . . .

Thank you Mr. President for all you have done.

Please don't go. Please don't go. Please don't leave us with him.

Childish, I know.... but nonetheless, it is how I am feeling.

Stay. We love you. Don't leave.

who was intelligent and college-educated, knew what he was doing, was inclusive of all races/ethnicities/religions/genders/orientations/etc., valued science, never resorted to spreading conspiracy theories about his political foes, never defended Putin and other American adversaries, and wasn't an utter embarrassment like the President-elect Toupee Fiasco will be. I'm proud to have Obama as the first president I was ever able to cast a vote for and to have helped make history.

We The People need democracy by an informed electorate. Is there no remedy to our fate?

...far more than most people could (or should) endure, and all with a calm, measured, professional demeanor. Obviously, the first African American president, but also a genuine, contemplative and brilliant human being.

Obama, like most presidents in my lifetime, had some policies I disagreed with. And yet during his tenure, I also could go to sleep more easily at night, knowing that BHO held the nuclear codes and wouldn't plan or execute anything rash or some knee-jerk, psycho-rage behavior.

I will sorely miss this man and Michelle. They're both incredibly sharp and savvy, and both possess deep empathy. They're still young and have stated that they both will continue to fight for what's fair, honorable, reasonable, diverse and inclusive.

My heartfelt thank-you and deepest respect and admiration to them both.

I was too young to vote for John F Kennedy, but in retrospect you brought the same aura to the White House.

I voted for you twice and never regretted it although I wished the people of this country would have banded together

with you to move us all forward.

Please, take some time off then stand up and help us really become great again.

Thank you.

You and your family represent the best of America, and I have been so proud (and reassured) to have you leading our country, and representing our country, for the last 8 years.

I am also grateful for the excellent team that you assembled to help you, and us. Joe Biden, John Kerry, Ernie Moniz, John Holdren, Jane Lubchenco, Kathryn Sullivan, just to name a few of this deep, and deeply qualified bench. And not a whiff of scandal among any of them.

I am so glad that you still intend to speak out.

FLOTUS Obama and your two beautiful, talented and generous daughters for 8 years of sacrifice and service. I look forward to the participation of this wonderful family as citizens. They will shine light on the dark world of greedy soulless profiteers.

Inherited the responsibilities of America after Bush and before Trump, this man would have went down as one of the greatest by default if he were not such an already incredible President.

You gave me much hope 8 years ago. Enough hope to make it through where we are now remains to be seen.
Having you as president as my three kids came to adulthood made me feel proud of where our family is on this planet. It was wonderful to show my young grandsons that their country was finally ready and long over due for the first non-white president.
It is a little scary for much of us right now, but I feel comfort in what we have seen the past 8 years. And it is always good to know you and Michelle and your young daughters are now citizens among us.

Peace and love~

I love this man and his family so much. Regardless of any criticism of specific policies or lack of accomplishment of goals, he is GREAT. And his wife and girls along with him.

I feel the way I felt when my father died... not sure how I can go on.

The end of your presidency is difficult enough, but the fact that your successor was the worst candidate ever makes it particularly hard.
