I was not able to walk in the local MLK march today.

I am getting a knee replacment February 6 and I just could not do it.

Instead, I began reading "March", vol 1, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell. My sister, a retired literature professor who specialized in southern novels gave me the whole set for Christmas. Yes, she read them first. It is my first graphic novel so it took a little adjustment, but it is compelling.

Other than my grandfather who died in 1958 and was a big influence on me, the men I admire most all have Georgia ties (where I lived for first 18 years). Martin Luther King, jr., John Lewis, Julian Bond and Jimmy Carter. When I was a freshman in college Julian Bond came to campus to speak. Those of us from GA were invited to eat lunch with him. It was an honor. That was of course 50 years ago (OMG) and he showed up photos of his young children.

I recommend "March", there are three volumes but it is a quick read, so far.

February 2 is the first anniversary of my knee replacement, and I'll be at the march in D.C. The first month is hard, but it gets steadily better. Oh, and that sounds like a good book.
