Cambodia: Wanted magic man set to do a spell

A 32-year-old practitioner of magic has been arrested by Battambang provincial police after seven years on the run, accused of murdering the wife of a village chief.

The village chief’s wife died after her throat was cut at her home in Sambo village in the province’s Koas Kralor district.

Brigadier General Cheth Vanny, the chief of the provincial major crimes unit, named the suspect as farmer Ly Daro, 32, of the same village. He was arrested on Friday.

Brig. Gen. Vanny said that at midnight on January 17, 2010, Mr. Daro entered a house to kill the 41-year-old wife of the village chief while she was sleeping alone.

He cut her throat, causing her to die in a pool of blood, and ran away.

Mr. Daro allegedly killed the woman because he was involved in a dispute with her.
