Since I will lose my ACA coverage if it is repealed, like many people, I reacted very negatively on Facebook when encountering these voters who didn't realize that voting for Trump would cause this action. All of a sudden it occurred to me that instead of name calling, we need to be encouraging them to call their Reps and Senators to vigorously protest.
I am not asking you to forgive them for what they did but right now, we need to look at the big picture and do what is necessary to stop this repeal since if it goes through, it will be a disaster in so many ways.
I posted tweets of encouragement and will now start working on Facebook. Any other suggestions are greatly welcomed.

(42,589 posts)I will be unable to stop myself from saying, "I'm sorry, but you absolutely did vote for this." And then I will urge them to call their Reps and Senators, which is an excellent idea.

(16,084 posts)I'm sorry but even if God called, it would not change the minds of the Reps and Senators who are hell bent on repealing the ACA!
Paul Ryan was confronted by a man who without the ACA would have died, do you really think that's going to change Ryan's way of thinking...not likely!
Go ahead and call, but once the votes have been counted and the new Congress sworn in, constituents mean nothing!
Good luck...but you'd have a better chance if you wore a blindfold while walking down the middle of an interstate!!!

This would also create an Opposition to the Unspeakable more generally: if a Democratic majority congress treat him the way the Republican majority congress treated Obama, then he won't be able to pursue his policies as easily.

(91 posts)Sorry, I can't find the link but wasn't medicare at risk under the Bush administration but was beaten back due to angry calls from constituents?
And yes, Paul Ryan didn't care about that guy who claimed the ACA saved his life. But maybe 100s of calls like that guy might have an effect. Yes, they don't care about people's lives but they do care about winning elections.
You're right, the strategy might not work but it is certainly worth a shot especially as many more of the Trump supporters realize they have been had.

(11,480 posts)Sending Trump a tweet would help you more. He is stubborn enough to go against everyone his party, us...he will do what he wants.
Maybe a bunch of sick people thousands in front of white house, I think even he wouldn't want hurting them on the news.

(4,449 posts)It will certainly demonstrate to the callers that the Republican Party doesn't give a shit for them. And then they can tell their loved ones the same thing. "Aunt Edna called Senator Asshole and his office was rude and they didn't even want to listen to us, and she doesn't know what she'll do!" will get us more traction amongst Republican voters than anything we could ever say or do.
Encouraging them to call their senators and representatives is absolutely the best thing we could ever do.
