A transmission from the streets of VegasVille, where Tony Orlando emphasizes, Im an entertainer. Im not a politician. For explanation and elaboration, read on:
THE YELLOW RIBBON EFFECT
A frequent Las Vegas headliner, most recently at South Point Showroom, Orlando confirmed this weekend he will perform at the upcoming presidential inauguration ceremonies in Washington.
Orlando is booked to perform at the Salute to the Armed Forces and Services Ball at the National Building Museum. That event is one of just three official inauguration events, and falls into Orlandos long history of performing at military functions dating more than 40 years.
I have been asked if I would be kind enough to perform, and it is an honor and a privilege to do that, Orlando said Saturday evening, adding that he was told Trump himself had requested his appearance.

(30,540 posts)drop all the PC stuff, so feel free to say whatever you want! I have a feeling though that he intended non-PC was just supposed to be for his use but he needs to realize it goes both ways, bwahaha!
I've been using "I hate having to be pc" and "As a Christian" when I preface my negativism towards trump. It really pisses off righties. I'm just paying back my friends who insisted that Obama was a Muslim. Also, I heard a lot of "Obama is the anti christ, but I'm going to say that trump couldn't be the anti christ because he is Putins puppet.

(6,409 posts)But I blame him for that whole yellow ribbon nonsense, which persists to this day. The interesting part is, we tie yellow ribbons on everything for returning heroes, but the song was about a guy getting out of prison.

I don't remember yellow ribbons for the POWs, but we didn't have any living near us.

(14,855 posts)If people in my area tied yellow ribbons around trees in the early 70's too, I was probably too young to remember it.

(7,300 posts)Each one had the name and rank of the POW/MIA service member. Many of us wore them during and well after the war. You weren't supposed to take them off until they returned, hopefully alive.
The only yellow ribbons I remember were the ones he sang about in reference to prison release as noted else where in this thread. We watched his show every week. It preceded Sonny and Cher.
LeftInTX
(25,462 posts)It just seems like the POWs coming home and that song coincided. I think a local DJ may have made mention of it at the time. Even though the song was about prison release, the song occurred when POWs were released and it probably made it more popular.

(24,023 posts)...reminding people of that.
I have long wondered how many people who have done the yellow ribbon thing knew the origin of it.
Maybe we can tie orange ribbons around trees to celebrate Trump going to prison.
