We've seen that Trump won't put up with even the most minor/trivial opposition. If someone, anywhere mutters "I don't like this Trump guy," he/she might be overheard, seized, and sent to Gitmo. And yes, I know how totally insane that sounds. But I'm not the crazy one. And I can't help but wonder how long it will take for this mentally unbalanced man to declare martial law after he's "coronated and crowned" president/emperor.
Martial law can be used by governments to enforce their rule over the public. Such incidents may occur after a coup d'état ... to suppress political opposition.

I'd really like to hear from anyone who believes that this can't/won't happen here.
On edit: And I'd really like to hear from anyone who thinks a coup d'etat hasn't already taken place by Putin and FBI Director Comey.

(21,168 posts)And I wonder if the miltary will accept him orders to shoot upon their fellow Americans.
For some reason I think they will turn against him ala a successful 7 days in may overthrow of his administration

(30,481 posts)I'm in the overwhelming majority on that. Not sure why hearing from one of us would be so special. Trump has more significant things to use his clout on.

(17,006 posts)True, things will not be good. But we are giving him way, way too much power. He's a bully and bullies don't have power of their own. They get their power from others by intimidation and manipulation. There is nothing really intimidating about Trump. He's nothing but a spoiled little rich boy who can't even control himself. His ability to express himself is limited to 144 characters and the vocabulary of a not very bright 8th grader. In spite of what this election showed us we are still the nation that elected Obama, twice. And, if we could have, would have elected him a third time. Trump and his ilk win when they make us forget that.

Trump is nuts. Is doesn't mean he is incapable of being sly and deceitful.
And let's not forget that his chief advisor is Steve Bannon who was the head of the Breitbart hate/fake news blog. This is a guy who makes Henry Kissinger look like a saint.
And you can bet that Trump is following the advice of this POS.

(5,455 posts)He is not going to declare martial law to remain in power (some believed both Bush and Obama were going to declare martial law to stay in office) or suppress opposition.

The officials of the United States, including the top military officials, all take oaths to the US Constitution rather than the President.
If Trump were to try to impose martial law without reason, the military would not cooperate and the cabinet would declare him unfit. If Trump were to try to dispute that, impeachment by Congress would follow.

(25,816 posts)There is much to be worried about, but not hysterical.
He is not the POTUS yet, but readers here learn every day that the sky
is falling. "it's the end of the United States!!" "Martial Law!!"
"The end of Medicare and Social Security etc, etc."
None of those things have happened and I don't think they will.
There are still a majority (check the election totals) of people in this
country that won't let these things happen. The new administration will
find that, even with a majority in the House and Senate, that the ACA,
Medicare, Social Security, the abolishment of abortion and many, many other
current laws will be extremely difficult to overturn. In two years I believe
the US people will elect more Democrats and put these fools out.

(51,308 posts)We sure have a lot of Chicken Littles here on this site.
There were black-helicopter/chem-trail folk here under Bush II. Apocalyptic thinking--either we're in charge, or we'll be rounded up in camps.
We mock those on the other side that believed this about Obama. CTs tend to vary by content across the political spectrum, but strike people of every political persuasion with about the same frequency. (Of course, our worries are legitimate concerns, and our CTs are, of course, legitimate issues. Uh-huh.)

(40,416 posts)Like those who want President Obama to declare martial law to prevent Drumpf from being inaugurated, I have equal revulsion to those who think Drumpf would do the same.
Both are equally despicable and stupid opinions.
