My brother voted for TRUMP because he hates feminists

I just found out. HE has yet to retire and may lose his Medicare and part of his Soc Security when he does so. HE voted for ME to lose MY Medicare when I finally can retire a few years down the road. And HE voted to have the ACA gutted and for people to DIE -- all because he hates feminists.

His HATE for feminists overrode his common sense or any sense of decency or empathy or compassion for his own mother (on Medicare) or members of his own family (me).

Much like Republican HATE for Democrats and people of color is what's driving their rabid desire to repeal "Obamacare". Had this law been passed by Republicans, they'd leave it alone. But it was passed during the admin of a BLACK DEMOCRAT so PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE for their HATE -- and for the GREED of big insurance companies and billionaires who resent its taxes and rules and who stand to make billions off of its repeal and so they don't care if people die.

HATE and GREED is what got us here.

My mother was so upset when she found out what he'd done, she choked up with tears - she's just SICK about it. I don't know what to say to her. And I don't know where that leaves myself or anyone else who needs or ever will need Medicare, healthcare, or social security.

How he could do this to his own family because he "hates feminists" is beyond me. Like my poor mother, I'm speechless and frankly, SICK.

So here we are, in a fascist dictatorship and stuck with what is likely to be the last DULY ELECTED President we'll have in my lifetime. From now on, we'll have fascist dictators running this place. The US is DONE.

My 89 year old mother will DIE knowing her own son hates her and other women that much and knowing that her beloved country is in the hands of a racist, woman-hating, corrupt, illegitimate fascist dictator who she knows will destroy it as she has known it all her life and that all her kids will have to live in the wasteland which is now the US.

Who could blame her for being choked up and SICK? I can't.

My lifetime, Union member parents have both passed, so they won't have to grieve over their son's now right-wing persuasion. My brother and I used to be close, actually friends even. We hung out together, went camping, fishing and sailing all the time. Then he discovered AM hate radio. I don't even recognize him anymore. He's angry, sullen and mean. My sister told me, "We've lost him, he's gone to the dark side". I miss the brother I once knew and loved.

We weren't really talking before that but that pretty much cinched the deal. The kicker is he was going to retire early and yep, you guessed it, pick up ACA insurance. He has two metal knees. Guess he'll be working a little longer than he planned. I had breast cancer 7 years ago. When our Dad died unexpectedly Sept 2015, I inherited our Mom. She has advanced Alzheimer's. I tried working full time and caring for her but... just couldn't manage it. I'm on COBRA for the next 5 months. Mom is on Medicare. Talk about brotherly love.

Several years ago, before it was legal, a group of us were discussing gay marriage, and our consensus was that we felt everyone has the right to be married. The husband of a close friend of mine said he was against gay marriage (and has TWO siblings who are gay) because - wait for it - he would "have to pay more in taxes" because married people pay less than single people, and he wanted more single people (no gays marrying, you understand - then they would pay less). I kid you not

These people aren't ridiculously wealthy, but they are wealthy enough. Two homes. A huge sailboat that they pay slip fees for, not one financial worry.

He voted for Trump. I don't know who my friend voted for. She hasn't said a word but before the election, she intimated that she did not want Trump to be president.

46. Probably is now a disused term -- I remember it from the 1950s and early 1960s...
Sat Jan 14, 2017, 06:54 PM
Jan 2017

...as a psychological term.

As in my mother trying to explain to me, circa 1960-63, why this Catholic woman she knew should try to get a divorce from her husband because although they had been the best of friends as pen-pals, he was not interested in consummating the actual physical marriage after two years as man and wife. According to Mom, a former Catholic herself, the Church would grant a divorce for that reason -- but if he managed to do the deed even once, they would not.

You could rephrase it and still get the message across. Even in a day and age when many are comfortable with their sexuality, there remain some who are not comfortable at all with anything to do with sex, regardless of who they are attracted to, whether they are gay or straight. Sometimes the reasons are beyond comprehension, but our sexuality is such a big part of our makeup as humans that failure to come to terms with who we innately are vis a vis other human beings can leave one angry, bitter, and twisted.

In any case, I think the main problem with your terminology is that it has fallen into disuse and now gives offense. I just wanted to let you know that I remember when it was used as an explanation for behavior we now describe differently.

Reading these replies reminds me I'm not the only one with a horrible hateful Republican Born-Again Christian older brother.

He even went as far as to finagle our now dead Mother to redo the will before she died, leaving everything to him and his awful wife. I don't even have so much as a family photo! And this was before he shortly thereafter shoved her into a care home against her desires, and I was powerless to get her out of there after she begged me to because she said she didn't realize what she signed, and my own name was conveniently left off of all paperwork (we are the only two siblings) There was even elder abuse on her by my brother and his wife reported by others to the county. She quickly got shoved into hospice when she didn't have to be, and now all I have as a memory was my Mom repeatedly telling me "I'm sorry" before she died. To top it off, my brother is a Corporate Real Estate Attorney so he planned this all along!

I can just FEEL THE HATE and it doesn't stop. Typical Republican "Strategy" the evil conniving fucks!

And my poor misguided Mother died as a Republican herself.

Republicans are not to be trusted and they also turn on each other.

To this day, I am still horrified for it all.

I have long believed that relatives are in your life because of an accident of birth. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just horrible.

You don't owe blind, unwavering allegiance to bad people, just because of genetic linkage. What they deserve is a benefit of the doubt. "A" benefit of the doubt. People can earn their way into your hearts and lives, or the inverse.

If you are kinder or more forgiving than I, more power to you, but do not let them ruin your life because theirs is already in twisted, hateful pieces.
